Tonight AFC Wimbledon tied the major league record of 75 games unbeaten.
Not bad for a resurrected club only 3 years old. Last weekend a crowd of over 3500 watched them and tonight in a midweek game over 2500 attended. The Franchise in division 1, MK barely reach those crowd levels. Who deserves the history of Wimbledon .... Let's put it where it belongs ... at Kingsmeadow .... home of AFC Wimbledon.

But is about four miles from their spiritual home of Plouh Lane (RIP) rather than the 60 odd miles the FA would have us believe was neccessary to keep 'Wimbledon' alive.

...and a whopping 266 goals scored in those 75 games !

Two questions come to mind-- 1) With whom is the "record" tied with, and when did the other team achieve their 75-game streak ? This isn't a quiz, I honestly don't know the answer.

    2) Are all the contributors to this thread Brits who happen to live in the States, or are there some American fans who realise there is life outside the Barclaycard Premiership ? Just wondering ;)

Some of us who follow AFC are indeed Americans.

Well, I'm answering my own question here -- according to Dave Anderson on the AFC Wimbledon website, the record is tied with St.Blazey from the South-Western League (level 7 of the non-league football pyramid).

St.Blazey have won the SWL for the past four seasons running -- last season they won the title at the eleventh hour following a neck & neck race all season with Bodmin. This season it's Millbrook who are providing the challenge to SB, although Bodmin and Liskeard Athletic have games in hand.

Despite their successes in the South-Western League, St.Blazey have resisted promotion to the Western League; their Chairman (Harry Cooke) has prefered to consolidate their position in Cornwall rather than face financial pressures by playing their football further afield -- of course, that may change in the future.

On a seperate note, many years ago I watched Cheltenham Town .v. St.Blazey in an F.A.Cup 1st Qualifying Round match. Cheltenham won 8-0, but for us it was great to see a team from Cornwall playing at Whaddon Road !

....so for AFC Wimbledon, after Hendon this Saturday in the F.A.Trophy, it's Bromley away on November 13th for that record-breaking attempt. :)

I'm glad to see the real Wimbledon doing well. I'm just looking forward to the day you finish higher than Franchise FC.

Not to be picky, but I'm sure the Isthmian, and South-Western Leagues would be as pleased as punch to be regarded as "major league" !

The 0-3 F.A.Trophy defeat at Hendon suggests that the Isthmian (Ryman) League Premier Division may be a challenge for AFC Wimbledon next season. But a challenge we know they can meet.... :)

So how many levels is AFC Wimbledon away from Conference level?

Two promotions to get into the Conference South, which is level six in the pyramid.

OK, so let's do the math:

2004-05: MK Dons in League 1, AFC Wimbledon in ... Ryman First Division, isn't it?

2005-06: MK Dons in League 2, AFC Wimbledon in Ryman Premier

2006-07: MK Dons in Conference, AFC Wimbledon in Conference South

So 2007-08 is the first season in which the teams could swap places.

I'm pretty confident in the placement for 2005-06, but after that, it gets shaky. I have a hard time believing MK Dons can't scrape their way to survival in League 2 or whatever they'll be calling the fourth tier by then, and as mentioned earlier, AFC Wimbledon won't just sail through the Ryman Premier unbeaten. Realistically, I'd see both teams staying put for '06-'07, with the True Dons pushing up to Conference South in '07-'08 and then the Conference proper in '08-'09.

If they're in the same division by 2010, that'd be quite an accomplishment. And very funny.

Right then, so it's now 76 games without defeat following a nervous 1-1 draw at Bromley. With three draws from the last four games, and that bloody record broken, it's time to relax a bit, get back to their winning ways, and show the Isthmian League Division 1 what they're made of ! :)

Glad to see the real Wimbledon doing well. 2nd time for history to repeat with the clubs rise through the divisions.
Why can't they just call the other club Milton Keynes?
