3-1 away win at Southend! All of a sudden up to 18th in the table, 5 points clear of relegation. Next match is a London Senior Cup match vs. Cray Wanderers tomorrow. Next League match is Saturday at Aldershot Town.
It's been almost a month..about time for an update. 1-0 away win at Aldershot Town. 4-0 away loss at Accrington Stanley 2-0 home win vs Morecambe 1-0 away loss to Rotherham 1-0 home loss to Barnet 1-0 away loss to Bristol Rovers The Dons only have 3 League matches left, with the next one being on Saturday home vs Exeter (8th in the table). The next 2 are Saturday the 20th away to Gillingham (top of the table), and Saturday the 27th home vs Fleetwood Town (10th in the table). As far as survival goes, the Dons were sitting pretty well after the win vs Morecambe but 3 straight losses has them in a bit of a precarious position. With 48 points they are just 2 points clear of the drop zone in 21st. In addition, Aldershot Town who is bottom at 45 points has a game in hand. Should be a nervous end to the season. The Dons are also playing Sutton United today in a semifinal matchup in the Surrey Senior Cup. The winner will face Godalming Town FC in the final on May 7th. The Dons have been using youth teams throughout the cup this year I believe.
Lost to Sutton United 5-2. Home draw to Exeter today 2-2. Luke Moore scored both goals. 1 point is better than none; 21st in the table but the bottom 3 all have a game in hand.
2-2 draw away to the League 2 Champions. However, with Barnet winning, the Dons are in the relegation zone with just one match to play. Next Saturday, home vs. Fleetwood Town. Here's the bottom of the table: 18. Torquay 52 - home vs Bristol (13th) - GD: -7 19. Plymouth 52 - away to Rochdale (15th) - GD: -8 20. York 52 - away to Dag & Red - GD: -11 21. Dag & Red 51 - home vs York - GD: -6 22. Barnet 51 - away to Northampton (6th) - GD: -10 23. Wimbledon 50 - home to Fleetwood (12) - GD: -23 24. Aldershot 48 - away to Rotherham (3rd, need to win to ensure promotion) - GD: -16 So, the Dons are screwed if it comes down to GD. If the Dons lose, they will be relegated. If the Dons draw, they will be relegated unless Barnet lose by 13 or more goals and/or Dag & Red lose by 17 or more goals. Obviously, the Dons need to win. If the Dons can pull it out, they will have 53 points. What Aldershot Town does becomes irrelevant, as they will remain behind the Dons. Since York and Dag & Red are playing each other, the Dons would also be above at least one of them with a win. So basically: Win, and stay in League 2. Lose or Draw, and back down to the Conference. Come on you Dons!
AFC Wimbledon 2-1 Fleetwood Town AFC Wimbledon finished 20th. http://int.soccerway.com/matches/20...edon/fleetwood-town-fc/1295358/?ICID=PL_MS_05 has details.
Amazing that in the end all it took was one goal with about ten minutes left in the last game separating staying up and being sent back down. To the Dons' credit they scored when they needed to, but man they need to do better next season.
I know it's early but, the first pre-season fixture has been announced: home vs. Charlton Athletic on July 17. http://www.afcwimbledon.co.uk/news/article/charlton-friendly-804484.aspx Just around the corner...
The Dons kicked off their pre-season schedule with a 2-2 draw to Dartford yesterday. Here is the rest of their schedule: Saturday, July 13th: Home vs. FC United of Manchester Wednesday, July 17th: Home vs. Charlton Athletic Saturday, July 20th: Away vs. Sutton United Saturday, July 27th: Away vs. AC Monzia Brianza 1912 (4th division team in Italy) The league schedule kicks off on Saturday, August 3rd as the Dons take on Torquay away. The Dons have also been drawn away to Millwall in another cup competition, this time in the first round of the Capital One Cup.
Results: 2-0 win vs. FCUM 1-1 draw vs. Charlton 1-0 win vs. Sutton 3-0 loss to Monzia The real season starts in just 4 days!
Unfortunately I have not been able to keep up with the Dons this year, but today is the first day of the FA Cup proper and AFCW is on TV vs. Coventry. They just took a 1-0 lead, now in the 55'.
The Dons are 15th in the table at 21 points, 3 off the playoff places and 10 above the drop zone. This after 15 matches played.
Nice win today though. Not sure they'll catch the playoff zone this year but at least they're staying clear of the drop zone too.
Concentrating on getting their own ground back in Wimbledon so won't be investing too much im players but when ever they build and move into the ground they will have more income and be able to invest more in the playing squad. Long term investment not short term.
