all these votings are my opinions(which I can't say they are free of bias). So feel free to suggest me other selections.

I personally would go for S.Korea for

    1. Going to the semi-finals of the World Cup.
    2. S.Korea's U-20 winning the U-20 Asian Youth Championship.
    3. S.Korea's U-17 winning the U-17 Asian Youth Championship.
    4. Two S.Korean clubs in the finals of the Asian Club Championship added with another Korean club that came in as the runner-up at Asian Cup Winners' Cup.
    5. Suwon winning the Asian Super Cup. (match between the champs of ACC and the champs of the ACWC)

I would suggest India for AFC Team of the Year Award.

    1. AFC U17 Championship: Quarterfinal - India impressed the AFC and the media during the tournament in the UAE.

    2. AFC U20 Championship: Quarterfinal - good performance

    3. LG Cup 2002, Vietnam: India won the LG Cup with some impressive wins in the 6 nation tournament.

    4. Busan Asian Games: The India U23 squad won two of their three matches (3-0 vs Bangladesh and 3-1 vs Turkemnistan). Only loss against China (1-2). Missed the quarterfinals only with bad goal difference in comparison with Bahrain.

    5. England Tour 2002: Two matches against Jamaica. One loss and one draw.

    It has to be Korea.

I can't even see how there's even debate over this. No Asian team has done what it did EVER!

    EVER!

Maybe, but they still haven't done anything at the senior level. A good youth side doesn't necessarily grow up to be a good senior side (see Ghana).

But this and all other debates are moot, since you couldn't possibly argue with Korea's success at the World Cup.
(I may even vote for Korea as the most improved team, considering where they were 12 months ago)

well, India did improve a lot.

By the way, I hope ppl here realize this is actually guessing what the result will be by the AFC awarding day. So if Uzbekistan wins the team of the year, that means all 64 votes turned out to be wrong and that shows how bad the BS ppl are at prediction contest. :D

    ...

Uzbekistan would be a big surprise... So let's wait and see.

Does anyone know, when the AFC announces the nominees?

By the way: India is currently your favourite team after South Korea... What a pleassure :)

as a Japanese......................................................................................, I must say South Korea was the best team in Asia this year by far! I do put Japan in second with:

Making round of 16 in World Cup
2nd place in Asian u-20 (yet another loss to Korea)
2nd place in Asian games (using our u-20 team)

and sure I will mention the U-17 disaster, where Japan had been one of the favorites, and then decided to suck!

Anyway Korea is definetly number 1 in Asia right now!

Five votes for India? Did I miss something this year? I know they've improved but AFC Team of the Year? I thought we were supposed to be voting for the best team of the year not your favorite team.

This award is not really about which team is the best in Asia. It's about the team which had the most impact. For example China won last year and it doesn't take a genious to work out that we are only about 5th best in Asia. But the fact that China the most populous country in the world qualified was a pretty big "impact" cuz it kinda justifies the "world game" tag football has. Therefore Korea are absolute certainties for "putting Asian football on the map" as the AFC like to put it. But India's chances are pretty slim, a few round of 16 and quater-final apperances at various youth levels and 2 games against the reggae boyz? I don't think youth team performances are taken into account at all, it's strict full national team performance only. Even if the youth performance is counted i think they will give the award to the teams which actually won instead of the teams which made the Quarter finals. The fact is only one team can possibly win the award

The Reggae Boyz aren't exactly world beaters. The got 5th place (out of 6) in concacaf's final round of qualifying. Their "star" striker plies his trade in England's 3rd (actually 4th) division. The only Indian player I've ever heard of was Ebbie Kodiat because he played for US 3rd division side Boston Bulldogs. MLS didn't have any interest in him so last I heard he tried his hand in Denmark.
