KUALA LUMPUR: The AFC has reluctantly disqualified Iraqi clubs from the AFC Cup 2010 tournament With world governing body FIFA last year imposing a ban on the Iraq Football Association (IFA) because of outside interference in its affairs, the AFC was hoping the issue would have been resolved by early January, 2010 in order to allow Iraqi clubs to compete in the AFC Cup 2010 competition. However, FIFA’s suspension remains and AFC is forced to disqualify Iraqi teams Arbil and Al Najaf from the 2010 event. http://www.the-afc.com/en/inside-afc/676-afc-news/26499-afc-disqualifies-iraq-clubs-from-afc-cup
Why can't they give chance to an Indian club instead of having 31 teams .I guess India is next after Qatar and Uzbekistan in AFC criteria table in West Zone
Why give an Indian club a chance? All other nations will be thinking the same. Presidents Cup winners will be thinking the same.
We want to give our HK clubs a chance too. South China didn't do so badly last year did they? We wish we had an ACL berth and two AFC Cup berths.
Well, every nation has gone through the same process and AFC has awarded the allocation before the tournament started. The fact is, for the AFC Cup, India had 2 slots. Uzbekistan and Qatar had half a slot. For all we know, there could have been many, many nations that could have taken the Iraqi slots. But AFC took the easy decision not to award any. In my opinion, they should have been looking to promote Kryrgyzstan and Tajikistan teams. These nations don't have any slots.
How can other nations take that slot. AFC was considering the criteria right.Look at the table in West Asia ,India is next after Uzbekistan and Qatar. For that remaining slot their should have been a play-off between an Indian and Syrian club Anyway there is not point in arguing about this, as next year everything will be changed
Tajikistan and Turkmenistan deserve a spot but unfortunately they are considered as developing nation under AFC
Don't get me wrong, but India were well down on the likes of Thailand and Singapore. They only get one slot. It could be argued that they get more slots and East Asia opens up to 4 groups. Bahrain only got one club in it this year, they got a slot taken away. Best thing AFC could really do in the future is have kicked Iraqi clubs out the day the draw was going to be made and added top the list then. That way, no one would have been any wiser. The longer they left it, the longer the nations would see that AFC don't really no what they are doing. Besides, which Indian team would enter for you? 3rd place, cup winners? Would they be able to handle it at this level? Last thing you would want is a dumbstruck Indian team entering at the last minute just to get slaughtered. The best you cna do, is keep to the minimum, do well and earn more slots that way.
Then west Asia would argue for more slots in ACL There no much difference between Indian and Thai,Singapore or Vietnam clubs.Only difference is that you guys play weak Maldivian and Malaysian clubs and we play against strong West Asian clubs in group stages and despite that in every edition at least one of our clubs has been able to reach the Knock-out round just as your clubs
Not really, as each region has 4 groups. Only in AFC Cup is it 3 groups and 5 groups. Anyway, time to discuss the 2010 event.
Well now India has a ACL playoff spot and AFC Cup spot. my question wat shud Indian Fed or Indian clubs do to impress afc and get more spots in either of da competitions?
View the criteria that once recently uploaded in the ACL thread. And like Jonny says, win matches but also improve many off the field areas. And then move on from there.
South China's Steven Lo reveals that he is trying hard to get AFC to approve South China's use of HK Stadium as its home stadium in the AFC Cup. Because of the annual Rugby Sevens, Hong Kong Stadium on 23 March is not available for football. So Steven Lo negotiated with Persiwa Wamena to change the home/away schedule with them. They agreed but AFC has yet to approve. If AFC does not approve, then South China will have to play at Siu Sai Wan Sports Ground... Everyone hopes to see South China play at HK Stadium instead, it is more convenient and it does not have a running track between the stand and the field, giving spectators a better view of the action.
It means spectators can make more intimidating atmosphere against opponent. I don't like it since I do hope Persiwa beat SC . Hopefully, AFC don't approve their request
I just read this: http://www.the-afc.com/en/afc-cup-2010/26731-south-china-fret-over-use-of-hong-kong-stadium I have mis-understood Angsa's post. No matter, so Persiwa will field on Siu Sai Wan (which I expect has running track.
