    Hi,

Im traveling to the UK in late February and have plans to see the Afan Lido FC play Carmarthen Town (sp?) on Feb. 28th in Port Talbot. Anyone been to one of their matches? What are some good things to do/see there?

    Thanks!

    Newport
Cardiff City but they are playing away around that time. If you have never seen a LoW game dont expect to much in terms of quality.

When we made our plans, there was not a lower division match that Friday. Since then, the Rotherham-Sheff Utd. match has been moved to feb. 28. We wanted to see five matches in five days (other home teams we will see: Liverpool, Arsenal, Norwich and Aston Villa), and the Afan Lido was the closest LoW match being played. Once we made some inquiries, the people were so nice, we had to go. We are looking forward to it. Is the Afan Lido-Port Talbot rivalry fierce? We are staying at the Averavon Beach hotel and plan to see the beach. Can I swim in the Afan Lido Sports Centre? Should I bring my swimming trunks?

aberavon beach hotel just around the corner from me.both clubs are located on the sandfields housing estate was the largest council housing estate in europe at one time and a nasty place to visit but thats all changed, well some of it.
as for the rivalry its mostly banter we all grew up on the same estate. but the lido have always had the better of the two clubs more money and the sports centre if you want to let us know well have a couple of pints at the four winds next door to the beach hotel
croeso i cymru welcome to wales

Sure. We'll be the two dopey looking fellas trying to stay warm. Port Talbot is not playing that night I take it or else you would be there.

I do notice that PT has a better official website than Afan Lido.

Please explain/define/describe "council housing estate." I am assuming it is government financed/run housing, perhaps high rises. Am i correct?

That sounds like a plan. We'll probably try to go there or the Afan Lido clubhouse for some food and drink before the big match!!

I want a serving of Scotch eggs before I go home. Do places still serve those?

I remember playing against Afan Lido about 18 years ago for Pontlottyn I think. I was a 16 year old goalie. We drew. I'm sure things have changed a lot since then.
    Have a good trip!
