Just found this, potentially encouraging partnership between AEG and Harrah's? Not sure if there are any other implications in regards to Philly, other than Vegas getting an expansion franchise. Good news is the article only mentions possible NBA or NHL teams filling the new statium.
Re: Gov. Rendell supports $150M proposal for MLS team [ESPNsoccernet 08.15.2007] Harrah's getting into the arena game in Las Vegas? They are going to partner with AEG to build a $500M NBA ready arena, though the city is already planning to build a $9.5B (!) complex of some sort which will include an NBA arena. Insane.
Re: Gov. Rendell supports $150M proposal for MLS team [ESPNsoccernet 08.15.2007] If I'm the NBA, I'm scared of Vegas right now. Very scared.
Re: Gov. Rendell supports $150M proposal for MLS team [ESPNsoccernet 08.15.2007] Perhaps they want to move the wohle leauge over to Vegas.
If they get an NHL team, does Rick Tocchet move up to the top of the coaches or GM list? Don't see any connection to MLS for this, though.
Does AEG in Vegas have any relevance to Philly MLS? No. Does Harrah's partnership with AEG mean anything to Philly MLS? Maybe. Chester's other shining light besides the proposed soccer stadiumi s the Harrah's Casino.
There is no direct mention, if we look at it critically though one can wonder if there are any implications w/AEG and Harrah's (located in Chester, quite close to our proposed stadium area) working in tandem. I know AEG is not the proposed ownership group in Philly, but they do have a reputation for sprouting up SSS around the country. And Harrah's may be interested in buying up more land in that area, but as far as we know there interested would only be in expanding the casino. Just trying to look at the bigger picture, but at first glance, no, there is no direct correlation.
Possibly, or if the group asking for funding is deniend or can't get enough, well AEG is kind of fond of the let us build and operate it deal, ala Toyota Park. Partnership with casino is another possibility I didn't think of, I don't think you wouldn't have to worry about limiting ticket sales when the fall semester opens like LA @ HDC in the Superliga final
