    Major game for Benfica who is facing the current third place in the table.
    Vitória de Guimarães, who is two points behind, are going to fight for the second place in their own stadium.

    The 18 players called up are:

    Goalkeepers: Quim and Butt;
    Defenders: Nélson, Luís Filipe, Edcarlos, David Luiz and Sepsi;
    Midfielders: Petit, Katsouranis, Maxi Pereira, Rui Costa, Nuno Assis, Cristian Rodriguez, Adu and Di Maria;

    Any word/rumors from Benfica about whether Freddy will start to see more significant minutes this half of the season?

    This is on Setanta Broadband 2. I assume that means it's on Setanta Xtra too.

    Benfica have signed Makukula, a forward from Sevilla on loan to Portuguese side Maritimo this season for 3mill Euros. He had scored 7 goals in 11 games (I think) for Maritimo. I dunno what this does to Freddy as he plays in the midfield and not as a striker, but could it mean Benfica go with two true forward (Makukula, Cardozo, Nuno Gomes, Mantorras all now true forwards) formations more instead of their 4-3-3ish formation?

    Either way, it doesn't affect this game, Makukula will probably be available for their next fixture.

    Does Binya's absence at African Nations Cup open up the possibility of more playing time for Freddy?

    I'm watching Cameroon v Zambia live right now and the opening lineup graphic showed Binya lined up as a left mid (I thought he was more of a defender). Lineup (R):

    or they could go with a 3-5-2.

    Yeah, he's playing right back in the 2nd half. The initial lineup graphic shown on the Nigerian tv feed showed him lined up as a left mid in a diamond midfield formation (but those graphics seem to be wrong as often as not).

    Where does he normally line up when at Benfica (and not on the bench)?

    He's a defensive-mid.

    Adu is on the bench.

    Soccernet has Di Maria lined up as a second striker with Cardozo. Is that where he normally plays? Have Benfica been playing a 4-4-2

    It's probably a 4-5-1 with Katsouranis, Petit and Rui Costa in the middle and Pereira on the right and Di Maria on the left.

    Great freekick by Cardozo gives the keeper no chance. Benfica up 0-1 early on. Multiple flares on the field.

    Benfica with the first goal on a free kick.

    A flare thrown onto the pitch has burned a hole in the goal netting is has caused a stoppage in play.

    If we manage to get a ********ign right winger a Cardozo-Makukula partership up top would be almost unstoppable.

    Maxi is slower then a tortoise, and takes ages to make a decision.

    Edcarlos and luis filipe in defence..oh man..a calamity is bound to happen at some point.

    hope we dont defend and sit back as usual..but our midfield is hardly quality enouhg to control a game so cont blame them really.

    yep...4-5-1 or 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 if you will. Just depends on how you define it.

    ----------------cardozo---------------
    --Di Maria---------------------Maxi--
    ---------------Rui Costa--------------
    ---------Katso----------Pettit--------
    --------------BACK FOUR------------

    Vitória is playing horribly, Benfica didn't need to do much to get to a 2 goal lead.

    It isn’t a very well played game but it is an intense one.
