They talked about him on PTI and asked if he could do for soccer what Tiger has done for golf. Tony said something about Freddy being "The Mozart of Soccer" or something like that. Both of them also wondered what we gave Ghana to get him. As little as they know about him, its nice to see an established show talk about him on a major sports network.

they talked about him in terms of him doing for soccer in the united states, what tiger has done for golf the past 8 years...

they did say that he lead the team in to the youth world championships with their victories over the weekend...

then tony said something to the effect of 'look at the picture, does that kid look 13 to you? hell no, that kid is no 13 year old' and then they went on to argue that fact...

after doing the typical tony/michael fight about his age the somehow ended up on mozart and how he was a genious at a young age, just like freddy.

it said how they qualified and if he can be the tiger woods of soccer in the US. tony said he doesn't loook 13 and michael said ya he looks like he drove to the Guatemala game. Tony compared him to Danny Almante and Michael said even if he is 16 he is an awesome player and is doing it against older guys. Either way he is great and if he is 13 he is the Mozart of Soccer.

I love how people like to argue how there's no way he could be 13, with absolutely no evidence. People, innocent until proven guilty. He's 13, all evidence we have says that, and until someone actually has something concrete that says he may not be 13, it's pointless to argue the fact.

It was actually quite funny. Tony made a comment about how Freddy looked old enough to 'drive the team to Guatemala'

At the end of the piece Wilbon made the comment to the effect of 'Even if he is 16, he's still the Mozart of soccer'

I thought that was an insightful comment. Mike was able to see beyond the questioned age issue and see that he does indeed have, unquestionable talent.

Peledre, the "evidence" is what you see with your own eyes -- doesn't mean he actually is over 13, but from seeing him in video (as I have) you would conclude that he is older than 13. It's not how he plays, it's how he looks. His face is not that of a 13-year-old. His body also is mature. I'm not making an accusation (doesn't matter anyway since he's playing U-17). But I understand exactly what the TV guys are saying.

    Those aholes.
I sent Cornheiser an email after he talked about Adu on his radio show last month. I wrote that Adu would be more like Tiger Woods than Lebron James. I'm not kidding. He never sent me a reply but it is nice to see that the comparison is making it on national television. I sending him another email ripping him a new one right now. Use my sh^t and don't give me credit...

Comparing a young suprestar to Tiger Woods. Gee, I was wondering who was the first to use that analogy. Now I know.

Sorry, but that's pure bullshit. NO ONE, and I mean NO ONE can just look at somebody, and confidently say, "There's no way he's 13", and make a valid argument. It's just stupid to argue someone is older than they are purely by looking at them and making a snap judgement. The human gene pool is vast and diverse, people develop at different rates. If you continue to argue that Freddy is older simply because he looks and plays like someone older than 13, you will lose even more of the credibility that you don't have. Come back with something that actually matters, like Proof.

I desperately do not what to turn this into a "How old is Freddy Thread."

Well take note b/c in this case I did send it to him. Put it in your calendar. 1st one to compare Tiger and Adu = MLSFAN7. Approximately early to mid Feb.

Timberlake - I'm sure you are full of good ideas. Let me guess you send all your's to Jim Rome. It was probably your idea to have the whole Chissy Evert thing. Bravo! Bravo!!

I remember when I was 13, there were some kids in my class that were shaving and looked to be 16/17. But there is no "look" for 13 year olds, because the hormones are so wierd at that age. They can look 18 or 8, it just depends on genetics.

    Peledr,
take the stick out of your a$$. you are getting all riled up because just off of looks they made a judgment that he can't be 13.
if you saw a 26 yr old woman with double-d tits that were nice and very perky you would say there is no way that those are real, based purely on your opinion that has no proof behind it.

I'm not getting riled up about anything, i'm just getting sick of the so called "Age Experts" on these boards who claim to have some divine knowledge and ability to correctly guess someone's age based on nothing other than seeing pictures and grainy videos of a person. If you can't add anything to the conversation other than the "there's no way that kid is 13, look at how good he is, or look at how old he looks" that hundreds of other people have already brilliantly mentioned, there's really no point in talking about the subject. Now if someone did come up with some info that there was a lot of fibbing of ages by people in the Ghanaian state department in the mid 90s to produce brilliant u-7 and u-8 teams in Ghana, that would be something worth mentioning.

Ouch. Quite possibly one of the greatest shows of all time. Park your butt in your chair tomorrow at 5:30 and watch ESPN.

    a different point of view...

I have seen fred play first hand and have played with him during vast regional events...now lets look at it this way before i say this I am not exactly saying hes not 13 but look at it this way...
Freddy is 5'8 150 lbs...im 16 5'11 157 lbs..in saying this you don;t see many 13 year olds with 150 lbs of muscle on them, i would say a 13 year old who is 5'8 would be 120 lbs at the most mostly 115 at age 13 you do not develop the muscle mass. Now is there exceptions sure you see a few amount of kids this age that look extremely old. The problem with this and that many people have is freddy is from a country that has a history of birth records and he is very mature for his age. In saying all this you must realize why many question his age and why I do and still do today can he be 13 yes, is it kind of weird he is from ghana that has a history or this type of thing and he has 150 lbs of muscle mass ..yes..but you the reader must see this view from both sides of the story

Peledre, you are obviously riled up, so don't say you're not. No one (including me) said anything about being an "Age Expert" and I specifically disclaimed accusing anybody of anything. But the burden of proof is more on you or whoever is saying he is 13. There is extensive experience here in the soccer community in NYC with unreliable birth info from African countries -- look at what happened with the MLK High School blowup a couple of years ago after they won the City championship. Forget how he plays, I'm talking about his appearance. He doesn't look even close to 13. If we are all so full of ***************, why did the TV guys go out of their way to make a point about this? I couldn't care less, by the way, I wish him the best of luck. It's just my observation and I'm entitled to make it. You don't have any proof either, so get off your high horse.

Care to read your own posts Modena?
How else "could you conclude" that someone is older than 13 by only seeing grainy videos and pictures of him unless you were some kind of age expert, because believe me, you can't.

Burden of Proof? That, if you know anything about law, always lies on the prosecution, not the defense. Needless to say, many people have gone through hundreds of hours researching Freddy's age, and his age and records have been verified to the greatest extent they can be, without doing alien autopsy type procedures on Freddy.

Most who've actually met Freddy agree that he is nowhere near the 5'8'' inches he is listed at, and he's always one of (if not) the smallest players on the field. Ask Andy Mead, who has many pictures on file of Freddy in comparison to his opponents.

I tend to think you are the kind of person who if they were playing roulette, and the last 10 times the ball landed on a red number, so the 11 time you'll bet on black.

And just because Kornheiser thinks he's not 13 that somehow justifies your claims? Trust me, Kornheiser is a great guy, and I love to watch PTI, but he is wrong about a lot of things, all the time. Do you believe everything you see and hear on the internet?

The "Burden of Proof" as you say, has clearly been defended and researched by numerous writers, US Soccer officials, and club officials. Until someone comes up with something more concrete then, "He doesn't look 13", they have done their job.

Damn, someone already took he's the "Tiger Woods of soccer." Let's see what can I claim credit for? Allright mark me down at 10:27 on March 10, 2003 and if Kornheiser steals any of these and doesn't give me credit I'm gonna make Wilbon sit on him.

    Adu's the Jordan of soccer.
    Adu's the Bjorg of soccer.
Adu's the Babe Dietrich of soccer.
Adu's the Satchel Paige of soccer.
Adu's the Jacques Cousteau of soccer.
Adu's the Jack Johnson of soccer.
Adu's the Lewis and Clark of soccer.
Adu's the Mozart of soccer (bastards stole that from me already but I'm putting it down for posterity's sake)

As long as Adu's not the Tony Mandarich of soccer I'll be o.k.
