Those were the first clips I have ever seen of Freddy - phenomenal ball skills. Totally unruffled in traffic. If he's 13, I'm 29. (Trust me, he can't be 13.) ;^)

There was a whole half hour on him on the TV show "Outside the Lines." They were talking about if he is too young for the attention, what he needs, how good he is, etc. They showed a clip of him shredding through a MLS defense (I believe it was the Dallas Burn) when he was 12 years old. However, his shot went high, but it showed how skilled he is. Also, my DirecTV says it will reair on ESPN2 at 1:30 PM EST, which someone else just posted.
It's the Outside The Lines program. Here's the show description from http://sports.espn.go.com/chat/sportsnation/otl Replays at 1:30 p.m. EST on espn2.
I caught just the end of it when they interviewed Convey and those two other guys, Nick something and a guy with the weird last name. Why was that last guy on there? They said he was the champion of some PUs Chaskas sport or something heh. Freddy's shot went high? Every clip I've seen of him he shoots high. He should shoot low more often.
I thought it was wrong to invite Josh Waitzkin to the show. His situation is totally different. Chess players have to turn pro at very early age like 10-ish and become a grandmaster as a teenager or they will never make it. However, chess pro's have to treat it just a hobby because there is no money in chess. Josh doesn't need to worry about how to handle his money. He has to worry about how to make money from alternative sources. That is totally different. Edit to add: Adu has the potential to become world's elite. Josh never has a chance.
Ah well, at least they tried, eh? It was a very good segment. Does anyone know when it'll be replayed again, or if it will? I'd really like to catch it from the front. I missed the last 20 minutes. What pisses me off was I opened this forum and then another forum and I browsed that for 20 minutes, then when I looked at this one realized I missed the show. =/
I just checked the schedule (i also missed OTL today)...The next OTL will be at midnight on Tue (that is late Monday night) on ESPN...I hope it's the same one....I guess right after the US- Wales game i'll be switching to ESPN2 and see if that is the case
I too only caught the last half of the program. I saw Bobby Convey and just stuck around to find out exactly why they had a "soccer" dude on. I didn't get to see anything of Freddy Adu, but heard the name and realised that it was a soccer topic. It was interesting to hear the commentary, although I think most of us have beat this topic around here before. I actually think having Waitzkin was relevant. Correct that his wasn't about making money, as most pro athletes and Freddy's situation is now. But he spoke of the attention brought on a young person and how it can take the fun/excitement out of the competition and what it did to him when the movie Searching For The Next Bobby Fisher came out and how it affected his mental outlook. Yep, all should watch after the US match.
the one on tuesday probably wont be the same one. its a shame i missed this, they do a great job and i'm really looking forward to the daily/nightly show that they're doing. great for him and US soccer that they spent so much time covering him. i wish that all the people who bitch about games getting bumped when other games run late would look at something like this and shut the hell up.
The part before they got to talking to the guests was cool. There was a recorded sit down interview with Freddy, they briefly talked about his age. They also interviewed his mom and followed him around for a bit. They also showed him schooling Newcastle. That is the first high quality video I have ever seen of him. He dances on the ball like a Brazilian (in a good way).
