At work I just saw a segment that featured Adu as the main feature and it basically on the idea of large sporting goods companies using teens as investments. Should a few clips of adu jogging around the field in his nats uniform, but thats about it.. I missed some of it but the gist was that these teens represent a cheap investment with little downside (what is a $1,000,000 loss if Adu ends up being slightly above average) and much, much more upside (good chance of Adu increasing soccers popularity, etc and having Nike already having a foot in the door) It came across like investing in these kids was defensive posture to keep them away from their competitors.. an interesting piece..
