According to the Dallas Morning News, we make have a chance to see 13 year old phenom Freddy Adu in the flesh this April in the Dallas Cup! Along with the U.S. U-17 team, the Super Group is slated to include youth teams from Newcastle United, UNAM Pumas, and Benefica. Let's go, USA! http://www.dallasnews.com/sports/columnists/sdavis/stories/030503dnsposdavis.75d1e.html
Good news. The U.S. U-17 team finished 1st in the CONCACAF qualifying tournament and will be heading to Finland in August to the U-17 World Championship. Thus it's likely that Coach John Ellinger will use the Dallas Cup as an important tune-up event for his team and we're apt to see most of the team's best players -- Freddy Adu, Eddie Gaven, Memo Gonzalez, et al -- in action.
Their U12 team got their a$$ beat last time I was there in '99. Y'all should have seen the Manchester players' faces.
Saw the ManU U12s that year. Beautifully skilled and cocky players who learned a bit about Dallas youth soccer. The Dallas Cup U19 semis and finals frequently make ESPN2 tape delay. With Freddy and the U17s, more coverage may be in store.
