If only Jaime would've passed him the ball.

Adu needs to adapt a Floridian accent, dress up in moronic outfits prior to the weekends matches, and do dumb dances while sitting on the bench joking with the other players. And then go and beat the pants off the NY-based team, Dallas-based team, as many times as possible.

I'm also pretty sure that at least half of Portis' votes were actually for Southeast Jerome.

edit: beat me to it --
(although for a second I thought this was referencing Hudson, until I got to the second sentence.)

With the rabid redskins fans having a playoff game coming up, if they'd have listed a third-string tight-end, he'd be winning the poll ;)

So you think they should have put Nana Kuffour on the poll?

I think Southeast Freddy has a good ring to it.

    Right now it's:

    Adu: 6.5%
    Arenas: 20.2%
    Ovechkin: 17.6%
    Portis: 55.8%

    Total Votes: 2712

Some progress has been made, but somebody needs to get Nowak away from his computer.

    "Progress"?

Do you really believe Adu is DC's biggest sports star?

Regardless of if we're being serious or not, sometimes reading the entire thread can give one a real appreciation of context.

Progress from 6 to 6.5% is pretty good for a 4th party candidate; especially during early January, when NFL playoffs, and the NBA and NHL seasons have all dominated the Post sports section.

And I think "progress" was being used in the one-hour time-frame of this thread, not in the scope of the long-term growth of soccer or how Adu could be a bigger star than Harkes or Etch or what have you.

In my view, it's nice that Adu is the 4th option in the poll, and not some National's baseball player.

btw, Adu is now at 6.9% of the 2843 online votes, but I don't think he'll be able to crack double digits. Prove me wrong, BS, prove me wrong.

Stats update that no one will care about: In the first 70 minutes that this thread was open, and using the data from posts here, we can see that Adu received 48 of the 378 votes cast from 8:59am to 10:09am, about 12.7%. BS isn't much help at all.

Hey, that gives me an idea .... since The Eagles in general, and McNabb in particular, were horrible this year ... and Freddy has a sponsorship deal with Campbell's Soup ..... maybe Momma Adu should replace Momma McNabb in the Chunky commercials ........
The boys could have all used mugs of hot soup out at the SoccerPlex last February :D

    No.

But I also don't believe that Portis is either. And if he is, not by that margin. Adu is the only named player in the poll that draws interest from sports fans who aren't dedicated soccer fans. True it's from a curiosity of "that kid that plays soccer"

When it's all said and done, though Ovechkin is probably the biggest name.

He's the best player of the bunch. But the biggest star (if you're going by "nationwide fame") is Arenas, Portis, or Lavar Arrington.

The question is...Who's the biggest star on the Washington sports scene?

Arenas should definately be considered. Outside of having a monster year this year, he's done a TON of work with the inner city kids. He's a good guy all around.

Why do so many soccer fans rabidly hate any other sports?

Personally, I love the NFL, and I think it's fantastic that the Skins are in the playoffs again. I really don't care that much for hockey, and basketball loses me once they leave the NCAA for the NBA (if they ever play in the NCAA in the first place), but I'm perfectly able to realize that soccer is just one of many great sports.

I just don't understand why BigSoccer posters love to bash any sport besides soccer, yet go nuts when they see soccer being bashed. It really is a strange phenomenon.

You don't know WTF you're talking about.

In his four year NFL career, he's averaged nearly 1,500 yards rushing per year.

He finished fourth this year in total rushing yards (behind Sean Alexander, Tiki Barber, and Larry Johnson). That's not good, that's great.

Mike - while I agree with you that soccer fans love to bash other sports there is not a single example of someone bashing another sport anywhere in this thread!

Sorry Mike - he is right. Portis is a good RB - not great. His great years were with the Broncos who have a monster O-line for RBs. His 3.8 and 4.3 YPC is not PB worthy. He is tied for ninth this year with five other guys including Mewelde Moore who I don't think anyone on here would call great.

His 3.8 would have been among the lowest in the league last year. Add in the fact he is not much of a threat catching the ball and that makes him good - not great.

yeah - and he bashs Freddy for not starting as well. I believe the context of his post was that only Ovechkin is a star on that list. So technically he is bashing MLS, NFL, and NBA and promoting the NHL so your argument goes right down the crapper.
