Here is the squad Camacho has called in to face Nacional da Madeira.

    Keepers - Quim and Butt
Defenders - Leo, Luisao, Edcarlos, Sepsi, Nelson and Luis Felipe
Midfielders - Katsouranis, Nuno Assis, Maxi, Rodriguez, Di Maria, and Petit
Forwards - Adu, Cardozo, Nuno Gomes, Mantorras

Note: No Rui Costa as he is serving a 1 game suspension for accumulating 5 yellows. Also, Makukula (Benfica's new signing at striker) is not in the squad.

A chance for Adu to get more time with Rui Costa out?

If Di Maria starts Adu should get at least 20 minutes, Di Maria always gets subbed off around the 67th minute (fatigues quickly???)

    How about a friggin' start?

From what I've seen he's clearly good enough for Benfica and I see little point in trying to bring an 18-year-old veteran of five professional seasons and three World Youth Championships along slowly.

Hear, hear. I am a Freddy neutral (which means "basher" on these boards :)), and I gotta say, the kid looks to have earned a start. Or two. Benfica ain't bad, but it's not as if Cristiano Ronaldo and Giggs are keeping Freddy on the bench. He can help this team. Now.

It's pretty clear to everyone that's watched Adu play this year that he has deserved at least one start this season, but I think the fact that Camacho hasn't obliged means he doesn't see Adu as a quick fix and that he has much greater plans for him next season. It seems that Benfica have largely disregarded Adu's MLS experience and chosen to develop him as they would any other promising youth player, much in the same way Bradley was developed at Heerenveen last year.

They recognize enough potential in him to see him as a major contributor next season and to ensure that he makes an appearance in every match (barring a bizarre incident like the one between Katsouranis and Luisao), but no matter how well he does this season he will continue to be brought along slowly and used sparingly, which at this point I'm completely okay with.

I think Freddy deserves a shot in the first team, not only for what he has done but also because of what others haven't done.Di Maria has some good moments now and then but he also has some very bad games (like Leixoes...). Nuno Assis has always very bad games. So with Rodriguez not capable of playing 90 m (as Camacho as already stated) I think Freddy should start, even if doesn't has a good game, I think he earned the opportunity.

Anyway, Camacho doesn't usually change his team unless he needs and if Di Maria started instead of Freddy so far, it won't be after one his best game's he will loose his spot.I'd bet Di Maria and Gomes to start for Rodriguez and Rui Costa.

Jesus, how about just more than 15 minutes? He can't even get into the flow of the game before it's over.

    patience grasshopper

all in due course ..... these professional squads and coaches around the world have their own systems and thoughts for developing utes ... Freddy is still by their standard a ute ..... observe how Herenveen brought MB along .... Freddy needs to continue to demonstrate patience and put in solid performances when he is on the pitch and in practice ... they did not acquire him to put him in too soon, too much and to let him crash ....

Sadly, this is probally the team. alot of important palyers missing or not at 100% i'd rather have pepsi as left-back if leo can't play with nelson or maxi on the right(which would put adu as right winger if i was calling)

should be a esay victory for slb especially at the Estádio da Luz but nacional has pretty good players like fellype gabriel and fábio coentrão (loaned by benfica, considered 1 of the most promising teenagers in the world.)
If the plan is to play cardozo and Makukula up front, i wanna see what the tactic is gonna be and who's coming off the team.

The thing that bothers me about Freddy never starting is that DiMaria almost always starts. True, I'm not able to watch the games as I'd like, but I always check out the stat lines and Di Maria rarely contributes. Now, this isn't to down DiMaria, but I just feel like they should get equal time or atleast an equal shot being that Adu has contributed to the stat line. To tell the truth I feel like it may be because DiMaria is an Argentine, while Freddy is an American. Maybe the coach trusts that an Argentine is ready while an American isn't. Maybe I'm prejudice for thinking that, or maybe we're on to something.

Fellype is injured so he won't play.(has been for a few months, probably the season is over for him).

Thanks, i didn't know that... i don't really follow the portuguese league except for benfica and when sporting and porto lose points (which ain't happening tonite... porto up 4-0 at 75th minute).

adu isn't ready to start... i would give you start or another, but he isn't ready... but i would way more minutes... c'mon camacho, give him 30 today

bench: Butt, Léo, Sepsi, Cristian Rodríguez, Nuno Assis, Mantorras and Adu

damn, luís filipe sucks... as for the rest of team... u gotta work with what you got... by why are there left backs on the bench? but hopefully pepsi gets some minutes... i wanna see what he's worth

Can anyone with Setanta Broadband see the game? I just see a pic of the Eiffel tower. Has it started yet?

It's on now but no commentary.
