Really? You got that from his post? I had the impression he was showing faith in the coach. And I'm a little hopeful too. This coach does seem to at least communicate more clearly where Adu is making mistakes. As for believing that Adu can still turn it around. Why not? Show me the person who doesn't make some radical changes in their attitude and maturity between 18 and 22. This isn't apologizing for him, it's just stating facts: Closing the book on someone who is 20 is just stupid. That doesn't mean he *will* turn it around, just that it's not a wild-eyed hope.
The problem with this line of thinking is that he's making $1 million a year on a contract that is good for 2 seasons after this one. After what will amount to 2 and a half seasons of not playing, Freddy will be lucky to get Twellman money from MLS. And not Twellman current money...Twellman returns from Germany money. And he'll get that whether he comes now, or at the end of his Benfica contract. There are many steps down the Euro ladder for a non-EU player that fails at Benfica. There are many, although not quite as many, for a non-EU player that fails at a club like Monaco. There simply aren't too many options for a non-EU player that fails at a club like Beleneses. He simply can't walk away from $2 million that he likely will never have another opportunity to earn (or will take him 20 seasons to earn)
What the fcuk is wrong with these kids.... SHUT THE FVVVVVKKKCCCCH UP,ALREADY WITH THE TWITTER! If you wouldn't want it in the paper, don't put it on Twitter!!
I don't see anything wrong with this tweet. "Team did not play great" hard to argue with. didn't say, "team sucked!", or, "I would have made the difference!" "Team got booed off field by fans" If they did, they did. No secrets there. "We gotta get ready for next game going to be a hard one". Hard to argue with that as well. I don't think he is calling anyone out on this, just providing a view probably shared by most involved with Beleneses.
it is still a little iffy. He might want to be a little more careful. It can be viewed as critical comment about his team-mates play.
People who actually played in the match can make that comment; benchwarmers should refrain from such comments.
I didn't think Adu's most recent tweet was calling out his team. However, in general I think the guy needs to close his twitter account. Getting more recognition for Tweets than for actually playing soccer is a bad sign. He's becoming more of a celebrity than an athlete, and he isn't particularly good at the celebrity thing. A reality TV fake celebrity maybe. Focus on soccer, Freddy. Save your career. All this other stuff is pure wasteful distraction.
No way he should be publicly commenting on the performance of his team in a game in which he didn't play. Arguably he shouldn't be doing it either way. He would have been called out had he turned to a reporter after the match and said his teammates didn't play so well, and he should here as well. He's got to just keep quiet and keep that frustration w/in the team.
Freddy needs to just shut up and play ... Twitter and self indulgence and self absorption go hand in hand. Jozy already got himself in trouble. Freddy is not playing, has not played, and is on the margins at best. Remember Clint Mathis and all the promise and "what might have been"? If Freddy learned anything from Nowak it is to shut up and play. The kid needs to show something or he will end up coaching 15 year olds with ODP training sessions in a few years. This is no longer about him and his agent and his youth. He is a professional and needs to shut up and do his job. Instead of twittering he can watch game film, or take extra shooting or free kick practice, work more on fitness or strength. There are a ton of extra things he can do to prove his commitment and to get his chances. He will only get one chance with this career.
It amazes me that people think tweeting a few times a day is a part time job. People spend much more time text messaging and you will never know. Charlie Davies, Jozy, and Freddy are raising the profile of soccer in America, which is going to make all of us fans very happy in the future.
The act of twittering takes no time at all. It's not like there's an either / or decision to be made between tweeting and working out. It's something you do during daily life, not instead of it.
When I took my first grade daughter to her practices this fall, I would see Chris Carrieri coaching a CASL team that looked like it was 12 year olds.
