    SAVE US! :(

Brad Feldman & Greg Lalas are getting worst with each game instead of getting better.

They give way to much credit to our opponents.

I only listen to them cuz they have some insider things to say but there match calling needs work, lots of work.

    HELP

Come back because you know the Laws of the Game. Neither of our current commentators do.

It was funny when Lalas started to get irritated at Feldman when he suggested a yellow to one of the Chivas players kicking the ball away.

Let's bitch about all things Rev ...

Did you know that Parkhurst's first name is "Rookie"?

It must be since every time he touched the ball it was "Rookie Parkhurst" does this and "Rookie Parkhurst" does that. :(

I bet his name will change to "2nd Year Veteran" for 2006.

Trust me when I say this.

You could have been listening to the audio train wreck that is Christian Miles like the rest of the country outside of New England in watching this match.

Consider yourselves lucky in that regard.

Have to agree. If you watch some of the other local broadcasts around the league there are some truly hideous announcers -- especially the pbp guys.

I miss Adrian but I don't mind these guys.

Oh my word yes. Wrongen was almost amusing, with a few Yogi Berra-esque malaprops ("Twellman has to shoot with his left foot, which his not his right") but if there were a way to reach into a computer screen and kick someone into the next time zone, I'd have done it for Miles. It was like this giant contest to see what could be the worst possible aspect of the match: the Revs' general ineptitude, Chivas fouling like it's going out of style, typically bumbling officials, or Christian Miles narrating the whole disaster.

    This was a gem

"Clear penalty - especially at home"

Ah Thomas, that is why you are sitting in a broadcast booth while a fellow Dutchman wins with your team.

I think by the standards of whats out there doing MLS games these two are quite reasonable. Just to name a few: Miles, WRongan, Breatos and a few other automatically make the sound on my TIVO shut off.

But frankly people, getting better Refs for our games is much higher on my wish list that getting better people in the booth. At least we can turn off the "Chatty Kathys" with our remotes while we need a lot of rope and a bunch of trees to deal with the problem of MLS Refs. :D

Revolution fans should not be too critical of Brad Feldman. He pays the team a great deal of money to be able to do the broadcasts.

Feldman doesn't bother me that much, but Friday night Greg Lalas had me wondering, "What's the opposite of a homer?" He certainly seemed to be bending over backwards to not give the Revs the benefit of the doubt. Does he feel compromised by having played in a couple of reserve games?

If you want to hear a real Homer listen to John Harkes do a DCU match. He talks about DCU as "WE". There is no question that he feels he is representing the team in the booth. That my friend is a "HOMER".

Just a quick, random question, but what is the etymology of "homer" in this context?

Homer as in someone who is biased towards the "home" team, even if facts and logic suggest they stink on ice. Every screwup isn't their fault, every ref call against them is wrong, etc.

Um, my point was that Lalas seems of late to be going too far in the other direction, as if he is so worried about being labeled a homer (which I didn't think he was) that he decided he needed to be persistently and harshly critical of the Revs.

Maybe Lalas had best be careful, if he is being viewed as being too critical of the local eleven. Seamus Malin and Doug Chapman were not homers as analysts. They called it as they saw it and were not afraid to be critical, which may have gotten them in some hot water.

Perhaps Lalas is a closet Metros fan now, and already has a position lined up along side his big bro? ;)

If Lalas is being critical, that can always be offset or balanced by "SuperFan" Feldman.

To get back to Andrian Healey, I miss his accent. I enjoyed listening to him talk. Greg Lalas seems to be the opposite of that. I can't stand his voice or his "come-and-go" speech impedement.

Lalas is alright. Feldman is just plain boring.

A definition of torture would be having to sit next to Feldman on a long flight, when there is no mute button.

Wasn't it determined that he does not have a speech impedement, but that he has a tongue stud?
Obviously, if that is the case, he shouldn't have it when he is broadcasting. Kinda like playing a match wearing army boots!

I don't mind Lalas. Btad Feldmen is a different kettle of fish.

The Dallas game produced an excellent result, but listening to Feldman was once again a very painful experience.
He has no feel for the game of soccer, just a mind-numbing drone of a list of facts, cliches and self-forced sayings that add up to the stereotype of just what makes a bad soccer broadcaster, or any kind of broadcaster.
Feldman's biggest contribution is to the continued low ratings and lack of interest in the Revolution over the airwaves.
It is a shame that the ratings are so low. Soccer ratings in general are low, but Feldman doesn't have anything to offer that woud help to improve them.

Maybe if the Revolution brought back a Derek Rae or an Adrian Healey, or found a good young broadcaster with a feel for the game and could bring a little excitement then the ratings might actually start to go up for a team that is fun to watch, but is unfortunately not much fun to listen to.

I agree, but I'm starting to think Feldman is salvageable. He has enthusiasm, his voice is adequate, and he follows the play well. His major fault is an inability to understand that two people doing "color" is one and a half people too many. Hence the murderous dronning. Still, I think working with Lalas is helping him. Lalas is more knowledgable and less biased and has corrected Feldman often enough that Brad seems to be toning it down a bit. Lalas, for his part, tends to repeat himself and take on a whiney tone more than he should to get his point across, but his points are usually valid and insightful. Last night, during the early technical difficulties, I switched to FSC, but three minutes of those guys was nearly lethal, so clearly we can do much worse.
