Nunca se debe tener solo una formacion para un equipo como lo intento Hugo con su 4-4-2. La formacion y jugadores se ponen dependiendo contra que equipo juegas.

considering that most successful teams use the 4-5-1, it can certainly work for mexico, given where most of the talent is (and isn't).

    Michel or Ochoa

    moreno, Galindo, Marquez, Salcido

    viilaluz, arce, pardo, guardado, vela

take your pick up front, franco, de nigris, nery, bravo, etc.

Horrible idea. Hugo made many mistakes and he should have been fired, however, playing a 4-4-2 was not one of them. If you look at the last 15 years of the best futbol competitions out there (World Cup, Euro, Champions, La Liga, Seria A, Premiership, etc.), about 95 % of the championship teams played a flat back four, which is, without a doubt (based on results) the best way to play the game.

i hope Chucho is creative, I dont wanna see long balls like in the U20 unless its long balls from Rafa to Nery, Guardado or Vela

I wouldn't mind seeing the 442 staying with a little more emphasis on playing up the middle, and not just down the wings.

Although, honestly I would liked us to have played 4231 or 433. We really don't have anyone I like on the right wing. Arce has been satisfactory as a right mid, but his crosses have been bleh and I haven't seen him blow by anyone with his pace. Vela could play it pretty well I think. But, if we do then depth becomes a problem. As of right now, we'd have only gio (unhealthy) and bad form, Vela not 100% and Guardado out for another 2 weeks. And for the center midfielders, I think Arce would excel as one but who would we pair him up with? Torrado would blow there. He could stay as a dmid but then we'd be short one mc. And a lack of depth again.

With the current pool of players playing in Mexico, I have no clue what formation to use. Since, I doubt we can count with the Euros for the next couple of friendlies.

Overall, I think we have more depth in a 42211.

3-4-3 is my formation because, the two outside laterales can fall back to defend when needed and attack when needed, its almost like against argentina. Our defence is so solid that they dont need to come up, just chill, they are a force.

This is just my ideal lineup I would like to play, I am not a coach so don't flame me. :p

    --------------Ochoa-----------
    -Osorio-Marquez-Galindo-Salcido-
    ------------Pardo------------
    ----Villaluz ------Guardado----
    Gio----------Nery--------Vela

I'd like to envision Guardado playing a role very similar to Iniesta. Can move forward to compliment the attack, but still recover the ball. I don't know about Nery being upfront but we don't have to many viable options. I know it's a short (stature) line up.:D

Not to mention, Aguirre plays a 4-4-2 with Atletico. So if he gets picked . . .

Why do you need 4 defense? i just dont understand that with the caliber of defence we have, take out galindo or asorio and put an ofensive guy, we have one of the best defense in the world when they just dedicate to defend only. linea de tres and add torrado to help pavel cuz in that line up your midfield is vounerable.

Dude, are you guys blind, 442 works for countries that play 442 regularly, and players that have stature speed strenth from goalie to striker. if you see the premiere league, you cant imagine any team in mexico really playing a 442, its not the style, we have shorter skinnier players but that are more agile, we have played 442 all the games in hugos career in el tri, us he never beat, gutemala he never beat, honduras he never beat. My point, you need a certain physical type to be affective in 442. By the way, why did mexico usually did well agains european teams before hugo, becouse our style plays well against a 442. look at the world cups since 94, italy weve tied twice , holland we tied, beat belgium, and so on.

    My proposed line up:

    ----------Memo-----------
    ---Galindo-----Marquez-----Salcido---
    ---Dos Santos-----Pardo-----Torrado-----Guardado---
    ------Zinha-----
    ---Vela----Nery---

When attacking we would be playing a 3-4-1-2

When defending we would pull back to form a 5-4-1, in this line up it's key none of the back 3 join the attack to reduce risk of counter attacks.

    ----------Memo-----------
    ---Dos Santos---Galindo-----Marquez-----Salcido---Guardado---
    Zinha---Pardo---Torrado---Vela
    ---Nery--

Leaving Nery as lone striker to take advantage of his speed in a counter or Marquez long ball.

    Another possibility: 3-4-3

    ----------Memo-----------
    ---Galindo-----Marquez-----Salcido---
    ---Dos Santos-----Pardo-----Torrado-----Guardado---
    ---Vela---Franco---Nery---

When switching to defense it would also form a 5-4-1:

    ----------Memo-----------
    ---Dos Santos---Galindo-----Marquez-----Salcido---Guardado---
    ---Vela---Pardo---Torrado---Franco---
    ---Nery---

I'd like to see a more balanced attack with only one d-mid (i.e. either pardo or torrado but not both at the same time)

    4-4-2

    --------------------------[Ochoa/Sanchez]----------------------

    ---[Israel Castro]----[Aaron Galindo]-----[R. Marquez]-------[Salcido]--

    ----[Nery]---------[Pardo/Arce]------------[Bofo]-------[Guardado]----

    -----------------[Cacho]-----------------[Denigris]--------------------

Subs: zinha for Bofo, Franco for DeNigris, Vela for Cacho

    alternate lineup:
    --------------------------[Ochoa/Sanchez]----------------------

    ---[Israel Castro]----[Aaron Galindo]-----[R. Marquez]------[E. Castillo]--

    ----[Gio]---------[Pardo/Arce]------------[Nery]------------[Guardado]--

    -----------------[Cacho]-----------------[Bofo]--------------------

Subs: Franco for Cacho, Zinha for Pardo/Arce, Vela for Bofo

Reasoning for these lineups: I'm tired of seeing a midget lineup...We need to be able to score in the air...Cacho/Denigris/Franco are capable in the air while Nery/Gio/Vela are not...

Basically the proposed lineups are too unbalanced and are full of midgets (i.e. to reliant on scoring via the ground while they easily get pushed off the ball) so we need to fix this by becoming a more balanced team:

    1. we need to have at least 2 credibile aerial threats...This starting lineup has 3 tall potential targets (Cacho/DeNigris/Bofo) with franco being a good sub/alternative

    2. before no creativity/attack through the middle (i.e all attacks are through the wings) this lineup with Bofo/Zinha and 1 d-mid allow the team to attack through the middle as well as the wing

    3. No individual passing threat...Bofo is a poor man's Cuah...Zinha is a natural CAM and is a good sub/alternative...

    4. before the midget team got pushed off the ball... Bofo/Cacho/DeNigris/Franco have good strength to hold the ball up!

    5. These lineups have good speed, strength/size and creativity

P.S. Zinha is a CAM not a Winger so put him in his natural position

Since Guardado is hurt i'd like to edit the above lineups

    4-1-3-1
    --------------------------------[Ochoa]---------------------------

    ---[Israel Castro]----[Aaron Galindo]-----[Magallon]-------[Salcido]--

    --------------------------[Rafa/Torrado*]----------------------------

    ----[Nery]---------------------[Bofo]----------------------[Vela]---

    ---------------[Cacho]-----------------[Denigris]--------------------

Subs: zinha for Bofo, Franco for DeNigris, Gio for Nery

    alternate lineup: 4-1-3-1
    --------------------------[Ochoa/Sanchez]--------------------------

    ---[Israel Castro]-----[Galindo]------[Magallon]------[Salcido]--------

    -----------------------------[Rafa/Pardo*]----------------------------

    --------------[Gio]----------[Bofo]--------------[Vela]---------------

    -----------------[Cacho]-----------------[Nery]---------------------

Subs: Franco for Cacho, Zinha for Bofo, Villaluz/E.Castillo for Vela

    OR
    --------------------------[Ochoa/Sanchez]--------------------------

    ---[Israel Castro]-----[Galindo]------[Magallon]------[Salcido]--------

    -----------------------------[Rafa/Pardo*]----------------------------

    --------------[Gio]----------[Nery]--------------[Vela]---------------

    -----------------[Cacho]-----------------[DeNigris]---------------------

Bofo for Cacho, Franco for DeNigris, Zinha for either Gio/Nery/Vela with him becoming the CAM

    * In case of Rafa being injured

P.S. I don't want Franco or Zinha to start...they should be used as subs for obvious reasons (i.e. Cacho/Bofo are close enough in ability to Franco/Zinha so they should get priority)

    support for oneself.
Whoever comes in, we're gonna have 5 defenders no matter what. That is the world tendency.
Hugo's 4-4-2 evidently came straight out of the Official Federasion de Jurgol de Nicaragua Furbol Clu Susieda Hanonima Simulation Program, of which this is a copy:
Also, regardless who the next coach is, we will see a whole lot more variables.

Even Hugo ended up using 5 defenders in the game vs. Guatemala toward the end.
