Any talk of Germany abandoning Adidas for Nike can now be hushed! Adidas finalized a new deal with DFB, the German Football Federation, today, extending their relationship until 2018.

According to Reuters, Nike offered 500 million euros ($678.4 million) to provide the German team's kit for eight years from 2011, an amount many times more than Adidas's deal.

What's interesting is that the DFL organization representing the clubs in first and second division German football are pissed about the contract, which they felt should have been more financially beneficial to German football as a whole.

Add to the mix Franz Beckenbauer, who was supportive of the Nike deal and the big money it would have brough in. The DFB erred in favor of tradition and nationalism.

Well I suppose it was a matter of patriotism over money in one sense.

    Yea, agree with biggSKIZZ.

It would've been weird to see the GNT not sponsered by adidas or even puma. Although 500m euros would be hard to reject.

so they chose 25mil x8 = 200mil over 500mil ? WoW. I mean I give props to the one who made the decision but it seems like many others, including Mr.Beckenbauer is not pleased and rightfully so. Extra 300mil could've done alot of things: training facility, youth development.. etc etc

But Kudos to Germans for sticking with their company!

I see it as a RARE instance of loyalty and national pride over the almighty euro/dollar/pound.
