It appears that Bradley is cutting Andy Williams and Ross Paule from NY/NJ. Considering the fact that we have some openings, would either one fit in here? Williams looked like the most dangerous midfielder on a dismal Metrostars team last year. His main knock is poor defensive skills. Kind of reminds me of DeRosario sometimes, he likes to dribble so much.... Paule was suppose to develop into a national team caliber center mid. Hasn't happened yet. He is also a bit weak defensively, but has good holding skills. Perhaps he could back up Ekelund? I do remember Paule playing some right mid in Colorado as well. Maybe Slippery One has an opinion of Ross' time in Rapid's land....
you should probably add this to our thread with all the rumours and possibilities for acquiring whomever...
If Mulrooney goes, Paule wouldn't be a bad fit, though I'm not sure he fits the Yallop mold. Same things goes for Williams. He has some of the best skills in MLS, but he's already been let go or traded from 3 or 4 teams, which implicitly says something. Still, he and Donovan up front would do some serious damage.
Well I had always heard good things about him, but by the time I moved here Paule was already on the bench and barely playing for the Rapids.
Are you some kind of moron? Why do you quote the whole post if your the first one to respond. Williams isn't a forward.
It's official Andy Williams, Ross Paule and Marcelo Balboa all officially waived: http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/more_sports/story/55120p-51635c.html Rumored list of players who might be waived this week (feel free to update): Andy Williams (M) SI Ross Paule (M) Marcelo Balboa (D) Mike Burns (D) Matt McKeon (D) Peter Vermes (D/M) Jim Rooney (M) Carlos Llamosa (D)
Paule might not be a bad idea depending if he can play as a winger. Is he left or right footed? Of course it all comes down to his salary, and what Frank really intends to do
Does MLS eat his salary if he doesn't play for anyone? Can they renegotiate? Can teams just release players under contract to save money? This would suck for MLS to be paying several players that no one wants on their roster.... Paule's biggest problem seems to be he's a "tweener". He's suppose to be a true center mid (re:attacking), but NY/NJ played him more as a defensive holding mid (along with Jeff Moore). He's also played some right wing in Colorado when he first broke into the league. I do remember him trying to catch on in Europe with winter tryouts. Is he better then our current midfielders? That's what Yallop has to look at.
Updated list: Andy Williams (M) SI - waived Ross Paule (M) - waived Marcelo Balboa (D) - waived Sergei Daniv (M) - waived Braeden Cloutier (M) - waived Diego Serna (F) - unsigned, rumored out of MLS Mike Burns (D) - unsigned Matt McKeon (D) - unsigned Peter Vermes (D/M) - unsigned Jim Rooney (M) - unsigned Matt Jordan (GK) - unsigned, waiting until Feb. 1 Dante Washington (F) - unsigned? John Harkes (M) - unsigned, rumored to DC Chris Henderson (M) - expected to re-sign with Colo Alexi Lalas (D) - expected to re-sign with LA Jorge Rodriguez (M) SI - rumored to be leaving MLS Alex Bengard? Hercules Gomez? McKinley Tennyson? Tony Frias? Carlos Llamosa (D) - going back to Colombia
The NY Post article says that their options weren't picked up. MLS had the right (but not the obligation) to extend their contracts, so it seems they're out of contract now and not owed anything by the league. Of course, they could re-sign with the league--presumably at a lower rate--if another team wants them.
Sheesh, this is like the 1996 MLS All-star team. My hasn't the league changed in a few short years. How old is Balboa now? I always liked him, but don't know if I'd pay him much at this point.
I think the only players worth looking at from the waiver draft are Serna Washington and maybe Cloutier...outside that I think we can find cheaper players... Let's face it, it isn't that these guys aren't solid pros or good players, it's just that no one can afford to keep them
Paule is a luxury player. He doesn't have high work rate or ball winning ability like a central midfielder should have. He used to be known as a skilled attacker, but he is no longer a standout in that as the league gets better.
