Ever since he left I've been very sour on Cristiano. His character after leaving the only club that was bigger than him and could somehow "contain" him has been getting worse and worse. I like to see he's still competitive and cares about winning even at a joke slavery money league though.
A guy has a relatively popular YouTube channel in Germany about how he went to the same place Ronaldo is playing on a vacation and entered a tryout for shits and giggles and now earns half a million playing there. He's never played professionally before and is in his 30s. He says you can earn comfortably even playing in the lower divisions and the level is so hopeless even hobby players can compete.
Its probably his ego crashing down as he realizes that he's no longer even good enough to lead his team to a cup trophy in freaking Saudi Arabia.
I don't think he believes that. I don't see him reflecting on himself and understanding that he's not good anymore. I'm sure in his eyes he believes he's the best player in the world. I mean the guy threw a huge pr war against Santos for benching him after playing like shit and the other player in his position had a hat trick. And Santos is a fair coach they won the euros together and he's been working in Greek teams and Greek national team for years I'm very aware of him and have him in high esteem. He seems insufferable right now no healthy team would want him. Still fun to look back at how great he's been for us and how many good memories we had with him, can't forget that.
At some point the dissonance catches up with you, even if subconsciously. As little as he is capable of reflection, there has to be some part of his mind that put this into context and all the denial must have been palpable at least for a moment. Its honestly tragic how much different his legacy would have been if he accepted simply being a leader, mentor and locker room presence, humble and at peace with everything around him. Imagine him becoming Ten Haag's right hand man, as a player/assistant manager of some sort and retiring at United with club success. That would have actually been the way to finally beat Messi, by evolving into something more than just a footballer. But no, he had to be delusional to the end. Such a shame.
You're talking about a man that traded a car at half it's value in exchange for a womans phone number. Ronaldo never was the brainy kind of guy. We got some years of incredible football from him but nobody had any illusions about him aging gracefully.
His whole personality is build around winning. When he doesn't, it probably undermines that. It's impressive how he is still performing even if it's in Saudi Arabia. He actually hit a banger of a bicycle kick that hit the post. But taking a loss this hard as if it was a WC final definitely looks a bit strange. Maybe there is more to it going on.
Wild speculation on my part but it may be that Ronaldo's self-concept is intrinsically tied to winning; in his mind, not winning equates to being a loser. This is quite tragic because it's impossible to win indefinitely, and one would hope that by this stage in his career, he could find success in other aspects of life, such as having a beautiful family. His situation is alarming as it highlights the importance of being comfortable with oneself. Ironically, it appears that Ronaldo may not like what he sees when he looks in the mirror. To avoid facing this discomfort, he has maintained his relentless drive to compete. Hopefully he makes peace with himself rather than ending up addicted to drugs, or gambling or women or something else that's self destructive.
This is the saltiest article I have ever read on Sport https://www.sport.es/es/noticias/real-madrid/real-madrid-numero-103232525 Give it a read, it's hilarious. Culés are lunatics.
If I didn't know any better I'd think xavi write this under a pseudonym Edit: We're about to head a bunch of complaints about spending on players and how real teams have a culture that can only be understood by growing up at the club
I don't see the problem. Coaches make "bounties" for players as in-game goals to drive them and reward them for motivation
Yeah we do it in sales all the time the only thing I’d say is his delivery was extremely flat. You are supposed to get some excitement out of these “spiffs”
They seemed to chuckle at his jokes. To be honest I'm already making a lot of money, I'm not going to be giddy like a kid for small rewards. I will pursue them because while an extra day off is small, you may have a wife or family who wants to actually go to Disney World that weekend lol.
