Hi, i was wondering what sort of simple things or training i could do to get a faster acceleration speed, and to generally just be faster. I have quite good stamina just looking to get faster so i can be quicker getting to the ball and running it round defenders.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Make an exercise program, do Interval training and do 3om sprints and have someone record ur times. e.g.
    sprint 30ms
    rest for 10-15seconds
sprint 30ms and after 5 or 10 repetitions have a 3min rest period then repeat. This does work because i had to do it for my PE A Level n before it i could run 30ms in about 5.4secs appalling i know and now i can easily do it under 5 seconds, my PB being 4.3seconds!

Working on faster acceleration is generally different than being faster. Acceleration, I think, is a lot more important than being faster (once you're ahead of your opponent there are many things you can do to negate their speed.)

Do shuffle races. You know, put cones 3 yards apart to the 15 yard mark, and from there do a race where you go to the 3 yard mark, 6, 9, 12, and 15. Now, when you start it make sure your stride is very short, especially when you hit the marks. Acceleration will work better with your feet closer together than far apart. As you get to the longer marks, increase your stride, but always remember to hit the marks with your feet close together.

    Hope this helps.

why do i not believe this at all? going from one extreme that i could not imagine unless if you were disabled or extemely obese and then going to 4.3. not that 4.3 is that unrealistic, but after anything slower than 4.7 i dont believe it.

The times aren't anything to write home about. But, what changed them? Just sprinting over and over? Re-using the same technique isn't going to make a significant change in your speed.

Now I feel stupid giving a response. Look at the posts from Viperman and Mettalbolic.

yes those numbers are something to write about...relatively. for someone who at one time is running a 5.whatever it was and then bringing it down to 4.3 then it is an amazing number. 4.3 alone with no other info is nothing amazing but quick

I don't know. That would be a 100 meters done in 14.3 seconds. That's OK, but I wouldn't be bragging about it.

    Different strokes I guess.

An Excellent British National Average Time is 4.2seconds. In response to Astrab00t im underweight my friend i weigh 8 stone 7lbs and am 6ft. The time increased so quickly because when i was younger i was fit but since then when i started college and work i didnt have any time to play football so its basically regaining fitness. Try before you criticise, A sports scientist taught me this technique and if it works for the pros why shouldn't it work for us?

You can't work out how fast you can sprint 100m from sprinting 30m you know because you don't run consistantly at the same speed, you get faster i can run 100m in 12.82 for the record.

I can doo 100m in around 12.5 and that is slow as hell. 30 m even worse because my top speed is ok, acceleration poor.
