Thread Hijack Hi Y'all, There's a person in another forum who is asking about moving to Raleigh -- business question, schools, quality of life. If you would like to weigh in, please visit: https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?postid=1785020#post1785020
UNC 3-FSU 2 North Carolina won the ACC crown Sunday afternoon, 3-2, on a late PK by Cat Reddick. ACC result and all-tournament team
NCAA selection Going into the ACC tournament and last week of the season, the Albyn Jones Strength of schedule top 10 was: 1. UNC 2. Washington State 3. Florida State 4. Maryland 5. Virginia 6. Wake Forest 7. Southern Cal 8. Duke 9. Michigan 10. Santa Clara An update would probably have ACC schools in 6 of the top 7 spots since Wake and Duke each played top 5 schools in strength this past week. Except for Maryland, each of those schools is also top 20 in rating. Clemson had a better W-L than Maryland. If the NCAA only takes 6 from the ACC, do you think Maryland will be rewarded for their strength of schedule over Clemson and win in the ACC Tournament?
Incredible. Look at the AJ strength of schedule after the regular season and tournaments. 1 North Carolina 2 Florida State 3 Maryland 4 Duke 5 Virginia 6 Wake Forest 7 Southern Cal 8 Texas 9 Santa Clara 10 UCLA

Strength of schedule Neat analysis David. By the way, it was cool to see your daughter play Friday night. I was reading the University of Missouri press release on the fact that they will host the 1st 2 rounds and this was justified by the fact that they "played one of of the nations toughest schedules". http://mutigers.ocsn.com/sports/w-soccer/spec-rel/111003aaa.html Since they tend to hyperbole on that website I had to check the facts on Albyn Jones. Much to my chagrin, they are rated 11th. The current AJ ratings have: 1 1830 Washington State 2 1828 UNC 3 1825 FSU 3 1825 Maryland 5 1818 Duke 6 1811 Virginia 7 1799 Wake Forest 8 1755 Southern Cal 9 1751 Texas 10 1743 Santa Clara 11 1740 Missouri 11 1740 Oregon State 13 1736 LMU 13 1736 Michigan 15 1732 UCLA 16 1725 Stanford Missouri was 11-10-1 and dead in the water until they advanced to the Big12 finals. Washington State only had a 6-11-2 season and lost to UNC 4-0, so strength of schedule only means so much. With respect to my comments in the NCAA tournament selections thread, I note no Big East or SEC schools on this list.
Re: Strength of schedule Wash State didn't appear on my list because I only arbitrarily extracted the top 50 teams in the power ratings and then resorted based on strength of schedule. It didn't occur to me that the team with the toughest strength of schedule would be out of the top 50. Wash State beat Duke 1-0 in Winston-Salem this year, and on that day they were very good.
First round matches for ACC teams All matches on Friday, 11-14 Clemson vs Georgia, in Knoxville, Tenn. Virginia vs William and Mary, in Charlottesville, Va. Maryland vs Rutgers, in State College, Pa. Wake Forest vs UNC-Greensboro, in Chapel Hill, N.C. UNC vs High Point, in Chapel Hill, N.C. Duke vs Stephen F. Austin, in College Station, Texas FSU vs Dartmouth, in Tallahassee, Fla.
First round results Four of the seven ACC teams in the NCAAs won their first round matches (Virginia, UNC, FSU, and Duke) and three lost (Wake Forest, Clemson, and Maryland). On Sunday afternoon, Virginia will meet Villanova; UNC will meet UNC-G; FSU will meet Auburn; and Duke will meet Texas A&M. Virginia, UNC, and FSU will all play at home, while Duke will be in College Station, Texas. I believe I'm correct in saying that each of our four remaining teams is in a different bracket, so we could still theoretically have an all-ACC final four. Good luck to our teams!
Second round results UNC 5-UNCGreensboro 0 FSU 2-Auburn 1, double OT Villanova over Virginia in a shoot-out Texas A&M 2-Duke 1 _____________________________________
Third round = Sweet Sixteen Two ACC teams left. UNC will play Purdue Friday at 6:00 at Fetzer Field in Chapel Hill. FSU will travel to Morgantown, West Va., to meet the Mountaineers of WVU at 1:00 on Sunday.
Third round results Still two teams left. On Friday, UNC beat Purdue, 7-0. UNC will meet Santa Clara in the quarterfinals next weekend in Chapel Hill. On Sunday, FSU beat West Virginia, 3-2, in the second OT and will meet the Florida Gators in Gainesville.
Elite eight Tonight's an important night for both of the ACC teams that are left. Both will play at the same time, 6pm, against old rivals In Chapel Hill, UNC will play Santa Clara, possibly in a rain storm. In Gainesville, Fla., FSU will play the Univ. of Florida.
Quarterfinal results Both ACC teams advance to the Final Four. UNC 3-Santa Clara 0 (The rain ended fifteen minutes before the game started.) FSU 2-Florida 1
ACC Thread -- spring practice The eight ACC teams will have a big scrimmage on this Sunday, the 18th, over at the SAS soccer center. There will be games at 9:30, 11 and 2, with winners playing winners and losers playing losers, if the pattern from previous years is followed. The games will be 60 minutes in duration. Come over at any time, except the lunch break, and your team should be playing, with eight teams on four fields.
