Shocking. Zero context to it. So fitting that people want to say “gotcha” so hard on this, but cannot even do it right. Put it out there! Are these people really that scared to do something so simple...correctly? It really isn’t hard. JUCO kid? No violation. Transfer portal? No violation.
LOL quit it man. This was not sent via an email service or cell phone. Going through a Facebook page is an attempt to be totally discreet. Kids have their email addresses on the portal so why not just contact that way? The guy did a stupid thing.
Quit what? Quit knowing recruiting rules? It helps knowing them. Contacting through social media is 100% legal, with a few stipulations depending on a few things. I stated two where social media messaging results in zero violations. You people do realize the NCAA manual is free and online? It doesn’t take a genius to find and read.
The guy is friends with the kid on Facebook, not hard to find any of his friends that start with Y that look like soccer players. Cross that with any kids on the transfer portal.
good catch. I just looked at his Facebook friends who begin with Y. I will check to see if any of them are college athletes.
http://www.goredhawks.com/SIDHelp/m/17/11/r|5887|Yuki Watari|9.php wouldn’t you know it. And I’m guessing this kid will end up being pretty good.
1) you’re unethical and can’t be trusted I would suggest that 2) you have broken recruiting contact rules. The school will have to self report to the NCAA. If it is true this has happened to multiple athletes it’s not gonna be good for the coach. Will depends what the department decides to do but they can’t ignore this type of violation. you did just mention the ncaa manual so why don’t you look it up for us?
So, you went from “recruiting violations” to your first reason is “unethical.” Which one is it now? There is ZERO violation here. Absolutely none. Regardless of what you believe or think, no rules broken.
need a release from NAIA school, which the kid wouldn't have gotten without initial contact from the d1 coach based on the message.
LOL the rules have been broken!! You can’t contact an NAIA student as a DI coach! I’m assuming there are a lot of Division I coaches in this forum that will also confirm this.
you’re hilarious. And obviously not a Division I coach. And again outside of it being a violation it is a douchey and unethical move.
Since you have a hard time with rules and like to make up your own. Here is what you need to know: https://www.naia.org/legislative/2015-16/releases/20160628peohw
I just found the the ncaa division I bylaw that ncaa division I coaches have to follow. I’m assuming this is the coach or assistant at ULM who is just mad they have been called out. Just follow the rules and you will be fine sport.
So, what you’re saying is...the institutions (including coaches) could have done their jobs and permitted this recruiting process? Funny how that was so easy to conclude. See, not hard. Keep on assuming. I’m neither. Never even been to Louisiana. Really want to though, hear the food and beer is delicious.
Legislation from 2015 is likely not applicable here This from the latest ncaa book-(A division 1 coach) Before making contact, directly or indirectly, with a student-athlete of an NCAA Division II or Division III institution, or an NAIA four-year collegiate institution, an athletics staff member or other representative of the institution's athletics interests shall comply with the rule of the applicable division or the NAIA rule for making contact with a student-athlete.
They could have but didn’t. That’s why this has become a thing. The coaches this happened to are apparently pissed. Nobody posts this stuff when a process follows the rules. You clearly have a personal investment in this and I’m assuming you are a coach from ULM or close to them. Just follow the rules. If not ULM will likely be joining a hot list in the near future.
You beat me to it, helps being up to date with the rules. Doesn’t help one’s case quoting old rulebook. So, maybe you should figure out the rules?
For those that want to read the CORRECT rule, it’s available here: http://www.ncaapublications.com/productdownloads/D120.pdf. Page 99 in the manual, but it’s on the bottom of page 111 in the PDF link.
While you have done nothing but assume wrongly about me AND another coach, maybe you should start worrying about yourself? Quoting old rules as facts for a 2020 discussion doesn’t help your case. Posting random pics and scouring someone’s friends list, that’s just creepy. As I stated previously, I’m here to post facts and keep up with women’s soccer — as I do the same in the men’s soccer pages.
