maybe definitely... depends what "it" would pan out into... but yeah - brilliant player whom I'd love to see at LFC
The guy is good. maybe we (and the near entirity of the Soccer fan public) are tooo fixated on what might be the standard make-up of a #6 I really like the way that this Macallister/Grav/Sbozslai thing is shaping - and how Trent drops in and out of there..... I also think having Jones (who is functional for all three of them) is a big bonus here it might just win something.....
Yeah, I didn't really notice the ref much, other than for the first yellow when the AC Milan player complained at him for like 5 min... Always best when you don't really notice the ref in a game.
He's well worth the gamble for the price we got him... I agree he's got a lot of upside, but 4 min isn't going to sell me on him yet...
Gravenberch is a more physical version of Wynaldum... EDIT: with some Gerrard in him as well with the occasional "Hollywood pass"
Sorry all for the multiple posts... been a busy couple of weeks, and just finished watching the game from yesterday. I still am not super happy with some of the ponderous passing we seem to occasionally fall into since Slot arrived. But you can't argue with the results, even including the NF fiasco. Let's hope that as the new system gets bedded in that we start to see the speed of play (pass to pass) increase as well. If we get the passing interchanges up to the speed that they were happening under Klopp and co., and we keep our defensive shape better, we could really see this team do some damage.
Gravenberch reminds me more of Pogba than Gini... Gini was all energy and a versatile skillset, Grav seems much more specific.
LOL! Serves me right for barging into the middle of the thread... I saw 26 and good deal, and assumed Chiesa. If the statement was in fact about Hernandez, then I retract my opinion.
That's the exact comparison people have been making - he's got the same attributes. Just needs to keep grounded and have a level head. Pogba totally wasted his talent - more or less. Certainly had patches where he looked good - but his career will go down as 1) unforgettable, and 2) for ManU letting him go for free and then buying him back for 80m.... the other comparison I've seen is Yaya Toure. Yes it's early - but I can see it if he really owns the deep midfield position.
Well he seems to have a similar body type, he's powerful and seems fairly composed when on the ball, he has a range of passing, and he uses his power and stride to eat up yards and progress through midfield. And he has technique. Maybe not as much as Pogba, he's not the same kind of striker of the ball and Pogba was such a dynamic attacker, that's a tough point of comparison for anyone... but as for individual qualities, those are all things I've seen from Pogba and some of that matches my eye test for Grav. I don't think they are the same player or anything. Not expecting him to become Pogba. And certainly I can't speak at all to mentality, seems clear now Pogba will go down as a huge waste of incredible talent... but the skills feel similar. Not one to one, but as a "type" they feel related. Yaya was soooo powerful, I remember him like a bulldozer in there... at least when he turned up and felt like playing, nothing was getting in his way. I don't see any of that from either Pogba or Grav. But with Grav, as terp said, it's so early... Yaya, where was he when he was in his early 20s? In Russia or something like that? And even once he developed, as I recall he was a totally different player at Barca than he was at City.
And I mean, this is something Pogba would do; this is intentional and utterly brilliant. And I don't know if Gini would even bother attempting this. https://www.tiktok.com/@onsoranje/video/7413733839530396961 That's the kind of thing that Grav and Liverpool supporters should be really excited about.
In my mind, Pogba was such a waste of the talent he had...mainly because of his poor mentality...and I don't see that in Grav at all... That being said, I only really link Pogba with his spell at ManU, and that didn't seem to work out very well for either of them...football wise...
Yeah, definitely wouldn't project that mentality into Grav.f Would be really hard to intuit that in almost any 22 year old, honestly.
