The field conditions were horrible and then both teams were wearing red and white? Whoever organized this event should be fired. Why play in 80k person stadium with artificial turf instead of down the block where the Dynamo play in soccer specific stadium? At least we won...
i wasn't able to watch, but it sounds like this was an improvement. 0-2 to liverpool and 3-0 against chivas. we're trending up!
we wore red and white for the first half, switched to red and black for the second... think the organizers figured there would be more people in attendance. chivas are a big mexican team, tons of mexican fans in texas..idk the stadium looked half empty.
I was at the match last night. The stadium was beyond half empty. It seats 71,000 and the attendance was 14,800. That would have looked bad in the Dynamo 22,000 seat stadium. However the crowd would have been closer to the pitch and the field would have been a professional field. I actually can't believed they agreed to actually play on that surface. You could see gaps in the grass. Much of the surface was sand painted green they put in to try and fill in the gaps. You could actually see the ball jump up and change direction on passes from the unevenness of the surface. I have seen the Houston Dynamo play Chivas on several occasions. It was a typical Chivas performance. They tend to play very chippy against non Mexican sides. The promoter did an awful job in promoting the event. They focused on Dynamo ticket holders. But beyond that it was pretty weak. Plus Milan did not hold a training session or press conference in Houston before the game to build interest. The crown was much more mixed than I expected. It wasn't 95% Chivas fans. Honda had his own cheering section. I actually had a guy in a Mexican national jersey asked me to take a picture with him. He said they wanted to send to friends to show that there were actually Milan supporters at the match. Perhaps my favorite scenes were the numerous couples I saw where the man was wearing a Milan jersey and the woman wearing a Chivas jersey. After a Milan victory, I suspect a lot of those guys were "disappointed" when they got home. My wife was sporting a Milan jersey, so I was good.
