If either Brazil (94, 2002), Germany (74, 90) or Argentina (78, 86) wins it for the third time in Germany 2006, will the FIFA Cup trophy be permanently given to the champions, like the Jules Rimet trophy was given to Brazil (58, 62, 70)? Are they going to forge a new model after?

    No.

This came up before the WC Final last year because if Germany won it would have been the third time. FIFA issued a statment saying the Germany would not be given the trophy.

The winner of the World Cup get to keep it until the finals draw the winter before the next world cup final. Then they give it back to FIFA. FIFA then gives a replica to the nation to keep. But noone ever sees it outside the trophy case in that countrys' FA office because everyone knows it's not the real thing.

I guess FIFA doesn't want to go through the trouble of having to make another. In a way I understand. The trophy itself is an icon. And an importaint one in the tv age.

Besides FIFA may have wanted to get rid of the Jules Rimet trophy. Its a peice of crap. I've seen better trophy give out at an elementry school track meet.

I disagree. 3rd time winnner should keep it. It's a tradition that should be keep. I would love to see what they come up with. The Julet Rimet is a piece of crap? Obviously someone new to the game. Only logical expalnations - FIFA is scared they both would end up in South Amercia.

Call me crazy, but I dont like it. Yes it has tradition and history, but I just dont like the look of it. Does this really say World Champion?

As to the tradition of giving the cup to three time winners, I like the idea myself. I was simply stating the fact that FIFA has stoped the it. Had Germany won the WC last time out, it would have been the 3rd time that they have won the new trophy, and FIFA said they were not going to get to keep it. So I guess FIFA was scared that Europe might get to have one.

So what makes a decent trophy then?
Guess it has to be similar to the Stanley Cup, nice and big, like those ones they give out for kick-boxing titles.

It's all about what it signifies. They could give me a guilded rat on a stick, but as long as I and everyone else knew what that rat meant, then it doesn't matter.

FIFA initially made the declaration after the new (and currently used) FIFA Trophy was designed in 1971, saying that it cannot be won outright.

And the "FIFA World Cup" isn't exactly a "cup".
    So?

Of course, the winner can melt the World Cup down (again) so that no one else can have it...

What a clever idea! The nation who wins it for the 3rd time can keep it and melt it down so FIFA can't get it back! Wonderful idea man! Why didn't the Brazilian,German & Argentinian FA's think of that?
