Well, that's a whole lot more serious than I thought from the Post article. I hope Eski's ready ...

DC should've signed me for the game. I mean, what MLS player HASN'T scored (in the game) on their Prom night?

    I liked this one...

United midfielder Bobby Convey was more direct.
"We just need to have our forwards stay up front and score and do their job," said Convey. "In any other league in the world, the forwards are paid to score. They are the highest-paid players."

An abdominal injury isn't a good sign for someone who had a sports hernia a year ago. A sports hernia is a tearing of the muscle right above the pubic bone that links the abdominal muscles and the upper leg muscles. In theory, the current injury could be a recurrence of the one Tino had last year.

As for Convey's comments, I like him being brash but I don't think he's the player to start calling guys out. When Bobby helps United make it to the playoffs, then he can spout off, till then, zip-it. For all the hype he brings, the reality is he hasn't done squat as a pro.

Also, I wonder if his comments are indicative of some friction, and potentially fractions, between the team. I mean, if the D is playing well but the team keeps losing because of a lack of scoring, there might be some fingers that start getting pointed.

Hopefully the team will get well tonight - and given that KC has the worst D in the league, we have a better chance than normal to actually score a couple. And if we don't either win or come away with a couple of goals tonight, some heads will likely start to role.

So your thinking is the only person qualified to take a leadership position on the team is Etcheverry?

Everyone on these boards is calling fro hime to be more demanding and assertive, if this is just a manifestation of what we're going to see on the field then I'm all for it

About Convey calling out the forwards, and going public with his comments and if he should be doing this or not:

We fans really don't have much of a feel for how the personalities are interacting on this team this year. maybe Etch is taking a few steps back as he looks to retire. Maybe not. Maybe Olsen is more concerned about getting in shape to get in Arena's favor (or some team in England) and isn't being a team leader. I do get the feeling that the defenders are mainly keeping to themselves, getting their own house in order, so the likes of Petke (new to the team) and Nellie might not feel comfortable talking about the offense. Yet.

That brings us to Convey who, unbelievable as it is, is one of the senior leaders on the team. The kid has tenure and so it stands that players, especially the younger ones, would look to him for leadership. certainly the likes of Eski or Ali or Q1 or Q2 or Barclay or Chino or Namoff- and those are the players who we need to come through if our team is to be taken seriously this year.

Convey has been stepping up. His game is flourishing now that he's getting an opportunity in the middle. To me, the most telling part of his comments is that Convey says the forwards need to "stay up front." One of the things we've been clammoring for, is that when we get the ball we do not attack quick enough. Well it's a lot easier to attack quickly if there are actually forwards already up front to receive the pass. Hudson/Trask has this team playing so defensively, it reminds me of Buddy Ryan's Eagle's teams ... sacrifice offensive to protect the defense.

If we let our forwards stay high, and command our midfielders to release quickly once we have the ball, we might actually get numbers into our attack. Then, if these people actually made some diagonal runs and the midfielders played the quick one/two touch pass into space and moved the ball around, we might actually generate some easy scoring opportunities. Alas, that's actual offensive tactics ... Hudson/Trask seem alergic to those.

I don't think any of those three things will happen the way he's playing now. Ben just isn't the player he was before the injury. Hopefully he's still recovering and there will be further improvement.

I find this hilarious. He is bad mouthing players that just came into this league. He came into this league 4 years ago and imo the magazine that labelled him an overrated player got it correct. How many goals did he blow throughout his years on this team? He wants them to "do their jobs" . what exactly is HIS job. Two games ago Hudson tells him to run around and create things to happen. I do not recalled seeing his name under assist..
