Hi, I'm going to be in london over Christmas, and was hoping to see the match at West Ham on the 29th. How should I go about getting tickets, and where do the away supporters sit? I appreciate the help in advance.

We ought to create a sticky thread for ticket matters.

    Totally agree.

There were an away match ticket thread a few months ago asking about ticket for the Villa match and the poster got the tix directly from Villa:

I joined up on One United, and I looked around on the West Ham sight. They wanted me to join their group as well to see ticket prices, but I deffinantly would like to sit with the away supporters.

Only Season Ticket holders can apply for away games.

You wont get one through the club with One United. Best bet is to buy off some robbbing bastard tout

Away tickets with the United support are notoriously difficult to get. The better bet is to get a home ticket and hopefully find a couple of other fellow supporters to sit with. It's not really a rivalry match or anything, so as long as you don't act like a plonk, no one's going to come after you.

The origin is unclear, but it is not insulting. Also, you may find this interesting.

To foreigners, a Yankee is an American.
To Americans, a Yankee is a Northerner.
To Northerners, a Yankee is an Easterner.
To Easterners, a Yankee is a New Englander.
To New Englanders, a Yankee is a Vermonter.
And in Vermont, a Yankee is somebody who eats pie for breakfast.

In rural Texas, a Yankee is a Houstonian. Fact.

    And why is that?

Back on topic, I'm thinking of taking the misses over to London and Paris for our first anniversary in March, and she said she's willing to do a visit to Manchester and Old Trafford (SWEET!!) for the game against Bolton on the 8th. Is Manchester fairly easy to get to from London by car or should we take the train? Are tickets fairly easy to come by through the website and where should some Yanks sit so we feel like true Mancunians? :D

    Cheers.

You can go from London to Manchester by train from Euston station (where Fergie got attacked ;)).

To get tickets through ManUtd.com you have to first paid and become a One United member and apply for tix, no guarantee you will get it. Alternatively, you can go with the U.S. supporter club, MUSCUSA (manutdusa.org), or MU Travel from the official site..

We're big city folks with book learnin? I really don't know why; I just know I've been called a Yankee many times in such a context; while, in terms of southern cred, I make Scarlett OHara look like Bette Midler. :)

Too funny. I wonder why only Houston is considered "Yankee". Interesting.
