Okay, ill be doing a weekly update off all the action around the world and giving my views on the events that have shaken the soccer world this past week, although for every Earthquakes game, the desicions went against us, that goal was offside, they should have had 3 sent off and they were very lucky are my usual comments. A shock in the MLS (according to yahoo) Metrostars beat Columbus Crew, 2 ties and a comfortable earthquakes win brings to end a great day of soccer accross the world. Ill start in Spain. The worlds biggest club Real Madrid was stunned last night with an amazing 5-1 defeat, Mallorca the victors put a small dent in the Madrid title hopes, they lead the title but due to a Real Socidad 1-0 win over Sevillia, the gap is now 1 point In Italy, The race for second place is getting close as Inter Milan drew with Atalanta, AC Milan beat Como 2-0. With their up and comming champions Legaue Semi Final the race for the runner up spot is looking increasingly more interesting. Elsewhere Juventus and Lazio drew 0-0, Torino looks more likley for relegation withg a 1-0 defeat as do como and piacenza who both suffered defeats. The english Premier division again proved that it is the most exciting league in the world yesterday in a breathtaking day which leaves 3 battles wide open going into the final game of the season. Manchester United beat Charlton 4-1 with a Ruud Van Nistelrooy hatrick, that put them 8 points infront of Arsenal, although Arsenal have 2 games in hand (against leeds today and Southampton in the league). This looks like heading to the final day of the season and Manchester United do have a habit of blowing the title on the last day. Newcastle United beat Birmingham City 1-0 through a Hugo Viana defeat, as Chelsea lost to West Ham 1-0 and Liverpool lost to Manchester City 2-1, Baros got Liverpools goal, however the old tradition of returning players scoring happened as Nicolas Anelka scored 2, These results put Newcastle into 3rd guarenteed, next week Liverpool take on Chelsea in the final game of the season, the winner takes that 4th place and the champions league spot. Now the third and final battle, the battle for relegation, which was widened to 3 teams (providing Arsenal win today). West Ham United defeated Chelsea 1-0 in emphatic and emotional style. Paolo Di Canio made his first appearence in 3 months as a substitute and he scored for new manager Trevor Brooking, this gave West Ham hope for survival, putting them level on points with Fulhan who drew again this time with southampton. If Leeds lose today, it means we have a 3 team relegation battle, heres the difference, they all have the same number of points, 41. The team that goes will have numerous records to there name but it creates an exciting battle for the end of the season. I would hate to be Sky TV right now who show the Premiership games, who do you show, the relegation battle, the title battle or the champions League battle, each battle is worth 15 million pounds to the winner ($25). What a close to the european soccer season and what a beginning to the MLS, this is what makes soccer so unique, as you cannot get this sort of entertainment anywhere. And again, i reccomend any americans or europeans who dont follow the english game to watch the playoff finals at te end of may, they produce the best games ever as 2 teams fighting for there lives. English fans, remember the Sunderland V Charlton Playoff final. In other news, the USA is likley to host the womens world cup because of sars, Brazil captain Cafu has expressed is lack of a desicion over the move to brazil and rumors are escalating that Newcastle United have signed a deal for Brazilian star kleberson which will be revealled when the transfer window opens. Transfer rumors Ronaldinhio to Man U/Arsenal Michael Dawsoon to Nottingham Forrest Landon Donovan to return to Leverkusen when the season ends. cheers for reading and enjoy the beutiful game p.s Come on the earthquakes
If Leverkusen were smart they'd sell the boy's contract. I'm sure they realize that he'd fetch a hefty sum from MLS or any other European team seeking to snatch up a young, quick, talented forward. Thanks for the update. If anyone isn't aware, ManU(re) clinched the Premiership title today...
Thanks for the idea, but lots of us already follow world footy and can access the info ourselves, in the many other forums here on BigSoccer and everywhere else on the web. We do not need long weekly updates (in this San Jose Earthquakes forum) about elsewhere when the information is readily available and easily accessible. Still, welcome, and we appreciate the thought.
Great! If I ever have trouble sleeping I will just read this thread, and I am sure I will be slumbering like a baby in no time.
