I grew up in Mississippi, I cheered for Southern Miss so this is really sad to me. Derrick Nix is as talented and class a player and person as ever strapped on a pair of shoulder pads and when things like this happens it just seems unfair.

He has been very upbeat even though if he doesn't get a transplan he may have just a few short years to live.

For those who want background on him he played onlly played 1 full year as starter and in 3 seasons overall, and ran over 1000 yards all three. He was an NFL prototype that was expected to be a 1st or 2nd round draft pick.

I don't expect anyone to make donations, but just keep him in your prayers.

very sad story. Reminds me a lot of what we at Penn St had with Adam Talieferro, a red-shirt freshman who had a ton of talent, but whose career, and almost his life, were cut short due to a spinal cord injury. I saw Derrick Nix play when we played Southern Miss a few years ago and was pretty impressed. Hope he gets better!
