Speaking of actress girlfriends, did someone forget to inform Ryan that actress girlfriends are so 5 minutes ago? I mean, if a dude from the Strokes is doing it.... I also think it's cute how magazines actually have the album title as lloR & kcoR. That's so Prince.
I am too. By the time I moved to the NYC area they seemed to have totally given up on playing in the city. The people who I didn't see before they died and now regret it could fill a book. Ramones and Sinatra (yes, Sinatra) would top it.
I miss Syd Barrett - you know, back when Pink Floyd meant sunny, impossibly catchy pop songs about perverts.
Did you ever have the feeling of "I feel like I'm wasting my money if I go into a store and buy that, but boy I'd really like it if someone bought it for me for Christmas"? That's how I feel about the Coldplay concert DVD.
I'm looking for two songs (by different artists), and I'm guessing that somewhere there's an album with both of them on it. Is there any good way to search for this kind of thing? (Of course, if it's easier to give me a fish than a fishing pole, does anybody know of a album with both Dave Brubeck's Take Five and John Coltrane's My Favorite Things?)
That is why I called it great. I haven't travelled enough, but I love it. Beats Ciudad Juarez by a mile
I didn't actually cry, but the first time I listened to Sleater-Kinney's "One Beat" while reading the lyrics was one of the few times a record really got to me that way. And certainly the first time in a loooong while.
I'd go to Amazon or Tower on-line and search for the two artists to see if you can find something with both on there.
I've heard from a friend that Ryan's Rock 'n Roll cd is quite good, but I'm really dubious. Check out this less than stellar review of his show here in DC: Mighty Morphin' Ryan Adams
Old Dirty Bastard and his forty gold teeth has thirteen kids with eight different women. Do the Math.....
Is The Smith's "Requiem for a Disco Dancer" a shout out to Serge Gainesbourg's "Requim pour un Twister"?
Once when I was in college I went to buy this Mozart tape at the bookstore. The tape was marked "Played on original instruments". In an attempt to strike up conversation with the cute chick at the counter I commented (earnestly) how clever it was that the performers designed their own instruments. Needless to say, I got nowhere with her.
I tuned past some award show the other night and heard "Two-time award winner Trapt" announced...are they giving out awards for "Best Faceless Non-Descript Nu-Metal" this year?
Of all the bands that have broken up since I first started listening to music, the one I will always miss most is Ben Folds Five. I loved that band like none before or since.
