I listened to "Thirteen Tales" just a few hours ago at work. BUt actually, that album was realeased in 2000, so it really wasn't after the turn of the century. But you're right. Damn good song
The doofus thing became pointless, as i spelled "That" incorrectly... But that's really not who i thought it was at all. although i do know the name.
I really like Ted Leo. But does anyone else think that all of his songs are about a minute to a minute-and-a-half too long?
In the most strictly hypothetical terms, let's say a team you support very, very strongly is eliminated from a major tournament. In said highly unlikely circumstance, The Replacements' album "Hootenanny" offers various tunes that may fit your mood: "Run It" -- a general F.U. to "the man" who is not only habitually keeping you down with his most bogus traffic rules but who has also seen fit to replace the brain of your team's coach with strawberry Yoplait, a good four years past its sell-by date. "Take Me Down To the Hospital" -- you may feel shortness of breath, chest pains, and reddish, somewhat bleeding knuckles that may need a balm or dressing of some sort. "Buck Hill" -- replace oft-repeated titular verse with "F.U." and you're all set. "You Lose" -- nuff said.
I was listening to the first Pretenders album last night, and I've decide that if I ever have a daughter, I'm gonna name her after Chrissie Hynde.
I was just ripping this CD onto my hard drive last night and was thinking about how excellent the album is.
MY. THOUGHTS. EXACTLY. And, the funny thing is, it's not that they are necessarily really repetetive or anything...they just keep...going. "Hearts of Oak" would probabaly be one of my favorite songs of last year had it been about 2 1/2 - 3 minutes long (as opposed to the 5 it is now)
That's the way that I feel about "I'm a Ghost." I mean, c'mon, Ted, these are pop songs. They're supposed to be short!
Five minutes is not a long song in my opinion. Granted, I've been listening to Nick Cave's "Babe, I'm on Fire" on repeat for about 48 hours. That songs is about 15 minutes long.
I averages out the time of all of the 1019 songs i have on my computer. Songs that came from a mixture of my CD collection, and of downloading. You know what the average was? 1.36 I like short songs.
Yeah, but I listen to plenty of other "non-jamband music" that goes 5 minutes and beyond. My wife says I have the longest music attention span she's every seen
I will do my best to keep that in mind when we get paired up. Actually, you better remind me I like short songs too, I just don't believe in any time frame being "correct." If it takes 15 minutes to get the job done it takes 15 minutes, if it takes 90 seconds, it takes 90 seconds. I love plenty of 2 minute (and sometimes shorter) songs. That 1.36 thing is amazing though. I will have to do the average on mine and report back.
"Come on Loretta, let me put my free hand up your sweater" A better line than that, I haven't heard all year.
My next-door neighbor is listening to a radio station that is having a "Monsters of Metal Weekend". All the hair-metal bands from the late 1980's through the early 1990's. It's been fifteen or so years since I've heard some of these songs and you know what? They still SUCK
Many years ago, Leftover Salmon penned the lines: "She took me to her home, took off her sweater. She disconnect the phone, oh, it couldn't be better."
--There are few things quite as enjoyable as listening to a great album that you've forgotten about for a time.
I am plagued by a recurring nightmare that I'm the bassist for The Imaginary Lovers, an Atlanta Rythm Section tribute band.
Which reminds me. The ultimate goal in my life is to tour with a Madonna cover punk/funk band called Borderline Virgins. Lately, I've been thinking of making it a Madonna/Springsteen cover punk/funk band and calling it Borderline Tramps.
Or you could make it a Madonna/Springsteen/Blasters cover punk/funk/roots band and call it Borderline Radio Tramps.
I found a secret square album at an actual record store. SECRET MOTHER********ING SQUARE. incredible.
One of my friends and I came to the conclusion the other day that if Faith No More had remained together longer, they'd be considered one of the best bands of the 90's.
Its official that I'm a sucker for the mellodramatic britpop ballad. How else could I explain why I like that Keane album so much?
