All these teams except Portland have crap frontrunning fanbases. And in Portland it’s not about soccer. Glad to see Atlanta showing its true colors.
We need Sacramento Republic in MLS, or MLS expansion in Oakland/SF... https://www.americansocceranalysis.com/home/2024/9/23/mls-rivalries San Jose Earthquakes (78) - LA Galaxy (73, 94%) Almost all Quakes fans consider LA Galaxy in the California Clasico as their one true rival. LA Galaxy (191) - Los Angeles FC (144, 75%), San Jose Earthquakes (33, 17%) Three-fourths of Galaxy fans see the El Trafico as the biggest rivalry for the LA, but 17% still see the California Clasico as the most important.
I was going to engrave a wooden spoon just for Fisher and hand it to him tonight, but I forgot and he wasn’t there anyway.
I was really disappointed we didn’t have 5 BSers willing to show up and protest. Maybe next year, when we go for the 6th (?) wooden spoon. (I’ve lost count… can’t remember numbers)
No one outside of Quakes05 really give a shit and would rather spend their time doing something else then wasting it.
Goodsie can correct me but I believe the Quakes have earned 5 wooden spoons and lead the league in that category. @Goodsport
Apparently the Spoon wasn’t “officially” recognized in the olden days. Last place isn’t a thing if it’s not recognized, per the media.
First mention I could find here was 2015. https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/other-teams-results-r.2001630/page-52#post-32616961
Correct. While the physical MLS Wooden Spoon trophy was finally physically created in (IIRC) 2015 after years of it only being spoken about semi-jokingly, it retroactively includes every last-place finish since 1996. It’s pretty much like how even though the MLS Supporters’ Shield was only physically created in 1999, it has retroactively engraved every regular season first-place winner starting with the 1996 Tampa Bay Mutiny. Thusly: ------------------------------------------------------- Though FC Cincinnati finished the 2020 season with the league's worst record, no MLS Wooden Spoon was officially awarded due to the pandemic's changing and shortening of that season's schedule. ------------------------------------------------------- MLS Wooden Spoons won (teams in bold no longer with us) 5 - San Jose Earthquakes (1997, 2000, 2008, 2018, 2024) 4 - D.C. United (2002, 2010, 2013, 2022) 3 - Chicago Fire FC (2004, 2015, 2016) 3 - Toronto FC (2007, 2012, 2023) 2 - FC Cincinnati (2019, 2021) 2 - New York Red Bulls (1999, 2009) 1 - C.D. Chivas USA (2005) 1 - CF Montréal (2014) 1 - Colorado Rapids (1996) 1 - Columbus Crew (2006) 1 - FC Dallas (2003) 1 - Los Angeles Galaxy (2017) 1 - New England Revolution (1998) 1 - Tampa Bay Mutiny (2001) 1 - Vancouver Whitecaps FC (2011) 0 - Atlanta United FC 0 - Austin FC 0 - Charlotte FC 0 - Houston Dynamo FC 0 - Inter Miami CF 0 - Los Angeles FC 0 - Miami Fusion F.C. 0 - Minnesota United FC 0 - Nashville FC 0 - New York City FC 0 - Orlando City SC 0 - Philadelphia Union 0 - Portland Timbers 0 - Real Salt Lake 0 - Seattle Sounders FC 0 - Sporting Kansas City 0 - St. Louis CITY SC GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
Yeah that’s the first time I had even heard of the Wooden Spoon to be some kind of official thing. Who cares? It’s a badge of great dishonor and needs no official designation.
It’s also one of the few things in life where all you have to do is crunch numbers. Last place is last place.
