The injury stuff scares me a bit given our history, but Leitch probably made it a 1/2 year + option contract, assuming that I'll say its a solid low risk medium reward signing.
In theory if we can believe the 6-8 weeks thing, he should be able to play soon, assuming he's staying fit. Would probably need to start with him subbing in. He should be fully ready to go by the 3rd to last game of the season or so
Sounds like one defensive signing and possibly 2 announced today? An outside back and a CB? We’ll see. Friendly reminder that new signings don’t always make you better. How quickly can the players learn the system, how well do they do in MLS, etc. But at this point we need bodies for depth at the very least.
If and when these new signings (whomever they are) get here and are available to play, they will have to contribute immediately. I doubt they will play against Austin and that only leaves 10 reaming games in the 2022 season. Realistically, the Quakes would have to win at least 6-7 games to make a dent while other teams have to also lose. Judging by the low losing morale -mentality of the existing team and lack of talent. I seriously doubt that will happen.
That was really an Almeyda thing. He called it his 4-year project and said we’d win championships (womp womp). I think Jesse was in a win now mode for the most part, always trying to bring the euro players who he thought would propel us to greatness, because you know, the euros are so much better at soccer than Americans and all that.

And now looks like we're picking up a CB also, Rodriguez, from Gremio, 6'2" 24-year old CB. If he's good would be cool to have an all Brazilian CB combo - the Brazilian wall! I'm told that #Quakes74 signing of Gremio center back Rodrigues did indeed get over line. More defensive help for San Jose.— Jeff Carlisle (@JeffreyCarlisle) August 5, 2022
I really like what I see from this guy, just watching this video. Good size, athletic, and will join the attack and score. And fairly young - 24. Seems like what the doctor ordered - of course those are the highlights. Looking for the "lowlights" video now but can't seem to find it.
Posted in another thread: "The San Jose Earthquakes announced today that the club has signed fullback Carlos Akapo to a contract through the 2023 season with a club option for 2024. Akapo, who was a free agent, will occupy an international spot on the Quakes’ roster" So, an almost 1 and half year contact, with an option year. Also, a rightback taking an international spot.
Hmm...well if he's Abecasis-level bad we could release him, I don't see any other targets (Asomani and Gregus have option years, Haji and Fuentes don't count against the cap, maybe Remedi but I am fine with him as a Judson backup).
I didn’t think Abecasis was bad. It was more that he didn’t really move the needle. We were probably just as well off with Marie or TT starting.
What are the Quakes averaging, 12k? RSL made some key hires in their front office and it has flipped the fan culture of their club. They’re proof that any MLS club can get a boost. You don’t have to be an expansion club to capture fresh energy. https://t.co/o4BEnKHkLv— MLS Buzz (@MLS_Buzz) August 7, 2022 Sporting KC experienced this with their re-brand and stadium. FC Dallas is going through something similar right now, too.The San Jose’s and Red Bulls of the world don’t have to be hopeless.— MLS Buzz (@MLS_Buzz) August 7, 2022
With 10 games and a possible 30 points remaining, I realistically see the Quakes at most winning maybe 3-4 games, if that. The young guys are gaining experience but they really other than Jebo and maybe Benji don't have much talent or potential to improve. At least I don't see it. Espinoza is highly inconsistent and the book on TT has already been written. Tanner Beason, Remedi, Shea Salinas (God Blass him) should all be gone come 2023. I know we get attached to players but the time has come to say goodbye. The jury is still out of the new signings but unless a miracle happens, they probably won't have much to add. This club needs 7-10 new players! With the 2022 World Cup coming in November and December, the 2023 MLS preseason signings will begin right after the tournament. The WC tournament usually brings out a lot of names no one knows and most teams in Europe tend to wait until June-July for their transfers. The Quakes could utilize the WC as a scouting tool come January, February and March 2023.
