Just being a wise ass haha. Was building off the earlier discussion of yet another expansion team (Austin) surpassing us before even kicking a ball. Have to say I'm a big fan of what the Roots organization has accomplished in such a short span of time. Already have a development squad in the NPSL off the ground as part of a long term strategy. Maybe I'm blind, but I don't see the same planning or commitment coming from the Quakes organization. The shirt sponsor was a good step in the right direction, as well as Forianelli's recent interview that focused on youth development. But I was expecting a little movement in the transfer market this offseason to give our poor manager something to work with. Hardly even thrown him a bone. Team spirit and bushido are great and all, but it would be nice to have some reinforcements to get excited about and push our team across the line and into the playoffs. And now with the stadium without a sponsor for the time being... Bush league mentality.
A return to the blue jersey / black shorts / blue socks primary uniform would do wonders for my team-related pent up frustrations. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2020/02/25/top-50-mls-players-2020-season Not one player in the top 50 in MLS. To be fair: Espinosa should definitely be in over Bill Hamid, for instance, but still.
Espinoza has been in the league for only one season so far. I really don't see how you could justify including him unless he had come in scored at the rate that Vela or Martinez did, or if he'd led the league in assists by a wide margin. He had a good season, but it wasn't spectacular. I have no problem with no Quakes being included in this list.
Can't speak for the particular writer of that article, but my hunch is that they probably care even less about who's on that list than you do.
At least he has on his record a good season in MLS. Locadia is on the list and hasn't played a minute in MLS, Rodriguez had 0 goals, 0 assists in his limited minutes with LAFC last year.
I mean, fair enough. As I mentioned before, the odds are high that the writer of this article gave no effs about it. Player rankings aren't exactly fun to write or worth much, but as Dayn Perry so elegantly put it, gotta get them clicks!
This is what happens when you entrust "journalists" with list-making. https://www.washingtonpost.com/spor...1a116a-4e72-11ea-b721-9f4cdc90bc1c_story.html
Lists and ranking are not journalism, and nobody considers them as such. Please don't conflate the term to dig at sports writers that you disagree with.
Say what you want about the merits of list making, but I mostly agreed with no quakes being in it. We are a small team.
The list includes several guys with half a season in MLS or less and Chicarito with no MLS minutes at all. Espinosa had an excellent season for a mediocre team. (Maybe not even mediocre.) Wondo was the fifth leading scorer in the league and scored more goals than any USian player, and he played on a weak team too. It’s a crap list. It’s: “We have to create some new content, so we wrote this shit.” Go Quakes!! Fisher OUT!! - Mark
For sure. I have no problem with a Quakes player or two appearing on it, but also am not concerned that none appeared on it. Rankings only serve to validate the reader's opinion or infuriate them. That's pretty much it. And people love to be validated and become irate over nothing, so these sorts of lists tend to perform well.
