There was a good Jeremy Schapp piece on some of the ironies in sports at the moment, Switzerland winning to the America's Cup, the best NBA team at the moment being led by a Canadian and a German. The best women's tennis players in the world being black, and the best golfer, etc.
At the end of the piece it showed LD and said, "what's next the United States winning the World Cup?"

The female announcer after the clip, Swoozie, something? said "naaaaaaaaah, but then again maybe with 13 year old Freddy Adu....?"

Don't know what to say about this. But I guess the title says it all.

I still smile when I think of Kenny Mayne's comment on one MLS Cup: "DC United at home, so they had to bring the orange slices."

That line made me laugh out loud when I first heard it, and combining it with the aerial shot of a sold-out RFK only made it funnier.

Kenny Mayne has to be one of the funniest carbon based organisms to ever occupy time and space. The best part is, most people don't get him.

I could deal with Kenny Mayne and Stuart Scott doing all the SportsCenters, and that would be ok.

Although I know of several people who really dislike SS.

At least there is a Sportscenter anchor that knows who Freddy Adu is!

I have no problem with this.

My father in law was watching some PGA event today, and the announcers said something along the lines of "what other sports did he play, soccer?".

Don't know who or what they were referring to, maybe his speed in walking from one hole to the next.

there was a discussion on a Black website about SS, about how he needs to turn down the urbanspeak a few notches.

It's funny everyonce in awhile but none of the others do their schtick in EVERY highlight. Dude is close 40 years old and saying BOOYEAH! all the time?

    Chill...

Probably not referring to him, but Roy Wegerle is now a pro golfer.

Stu is scarry. I'm not quite sure if he is an African American or he just plays one on TV.

If he would just be himself, and stop sounding like a bad imitation of a Whigger, I know I for one would stop wincing.

That said, he is way more interesting than the rest of those brain dead repeaters he works with.

i also like linda cohn. she's sorta cool, in an uncool sorta sports way.

Then there was the sportscenter commercial of Kenny Mayne and another anchor playing foosball against Ramos and Lalas.

I always liked the "And he hits it over some fencing they've set up in the outfield."

    regarding kenny mayne

Kenny mayne has always been one of my favorites but he became a god last year when on sports center, he was having a conversation with Mike Lupica, I forgot what it was specifically about, but Lupica interjects with " I HATE SOCCER".

Mayne didn't miss a beat and retorted with : "WELL , SOCCER HATES YOU TOO".

Lupica was speechless, the way a spoiled 6 year old kid is when he doesn't get what he wants.

    Priceless.

  16. I still say ESPN has something to do with it!

Yes, Kenny Mayne did the slide.

For those needing video evidence, go here:
    http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/thisissportscenter/archive

Lalas stars in the "Foosball" and "Counterculture" clips. Fans (and non-fans) of Jack Edwards should watch "Roger's Fastball."

Also check out Shoe Deal as well, classic stuff.

Special points to those that find the one with Andrew Shue.

    Easy, now.

Regardless of the words intent, I think because of what it rhymes with, said word could be considered pretty offensive so you might want to be careful how you use it.

Hell, if the mods had any clue what the word meant, you may have even been carded!

Ah, yes, the infamous "trade" between ESPN and Melrose Place, in which Andrew Shue was traded for Charley Steiner. Shue ended up as a SportsCenter anchor, and Steiner was the new "poolboy" at Melrose Place. Funny stuff :)

BTW, does anyone know why Steiner left ESPN to go to the YES Network and just do baseball games?
