If Poland attacked Turkey in the rear, would Greece help? Where's 'Chili' anyway?

this time, 2 #3 seeds don't get automatic #1s. In SK, we got two #3s (Poland, South Korea), and a #2 (Portugal).

You gave Wales a spot, but they somehow didn't make it into any of the pots.

uhhh...did I have an extra team ro something? Or do I have a team doubled up in the final 32? They would be a Pot D squad I'd

There are no #2 or #3 seeds. After the first eight teams, they are grouped by region. This is kinda what it will look like for 2006:

    Pot 1: seeded teams

    Pot 2: remaining european teams

    Pot 3: africa and n.america

    Pot 4: asia and s.american

It may be slightly different based on which teams get seeded, and which confederations win the playoffs.

I think UEFA only gets 13 slots- the 14th is Germany's spot as host.

    ahhhh...thanks :)

I guess we can just pretend that they did't make it! Sorry Giggsy

you sure scaryice? That sounds a lot more plausible than what I did

Beat me to it - no seeding by rank beyond the top seeds - pots are based on geographical criteria.

I think I posted a mock draw back in December let me see if I can dig it up.

OK, didn't post my mock draw - just discussed it in this thread:

    Thank goodness for upsets!

WCQ would be no fun without them.

You've got the seeding process all wrong. In Pot A, England and Mexico would be seeded ahead of Nigeria and the Netherlands. Also, in the past FIFA has grouped CONCACAF and CAF in the same pot, although this may change now since they may not have 8 entrants this time.

How did you determine what teams would make it?

Because I can't believe you left out Paraguay (especially in favor of 'Chili'). They are currently leading CONMEBOL after 4 qualifying games (which is still early, I know) but they are one of the top sides in South America, with one of the top keepers in the world. Like I said, they are in 1st place now, I find it hard to believe that they would drop all the way to 6th (or lower) and fail to qualifying for the World Cup.

Also, no offense, but you should check your spelling before posting, as you misspelled several nations over the course of your posts, most notabley: "Chili" (Chile), "Columbia" (Colombia), "Hondurus" (Honduras), and "Sweeden" (Sweden).

Who is their keeper now? I think you mean Chilavert, but he's not their keeper anymore.

At any rate, I expect them to be among the top 4 teams, qualifying automatically.

#1. My apologies for the spelling

#2. I basically picked teams at random from South America

#3. I only did this because I was bored and thought it would be fun. I also thought it would be interesting because it seems to be a tougher world cup this time around because South Korea and Japan don't get automatic seeds

I'll re-do the Pots later this evening. And attempt to get my spelling fixed

I actually ran a bunch of sims with the following 32 teams:

    Seeds:
Brazil, Spain, Germany, Mexico, England, Italy, France, Argentina

    Pot B:
USA, Costa Rica, Honduras (won playoff v Asia), Senegal, South Africa, Cameroon, Nigeria, Morocco

    Pot C:
Japan, South Korea, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Australia (won playoff v South America), Paraguay, Uruguay, Belgium

    Pot D:
Holland, Czech Republic, Denmark, Turkey, Portugal, Ireland, Norway, Croatia

Here were the results of the 10,000 sims for chances of winning:

    Germany - 18%
    Brazil - 15%
    Netherlands - 11%
    France - 10%
    Argentina - 9%
    Czech Republic - 7%
    Spain - 6%
    England - 5%
    Portugal - 3%
    Ireland - 3%

The USA is given a 0.61% chance of winning given these 32 teams, 18th out of 32. The only team not to win at least once was Saudi Arabia who made the final once out of 10,000 times and lost. Iran won once, and South Africa won 3 times.

Oh and though he did misspell Colombia, I'm not sure it matters as they are already in a world of trouble when it comes to qualifying.

    Knock out rounds

BTW,here is how the knock out rounds play out:

    1Ax2B (Game 1)
    1Bx2A (2)
    1Cx2D (3)
    1Dx2C (4)
    1Ex2F (5)
    1Fx2E (6)
    1Gx2H (7)
    1Hx2G (8)

    Quarters:

    1x3 (A)
    2x4 (B)
    5x7 (C)
    6x8 (D)

    Semis:

    AxC
    BxD

My prediction: Brazil wins, regardless! I won't bother plugging teams in... :D
