I've been thinking about the final coming up and what it means to me. And it got me to thinking about how everyone else feels about this game. I'm going to give some options, but feel free to expand on them. Even if you're not going to LA, you've got to have feelings about the game. MLS Cup to you is... A) A celebration of the entire season to be had by all. In other words, a lovey dovey weekend where we're all happy to meet other supporters, go to a Final, have a great time and hope your team wins. I'm not suggesting complacency, but maybe you're just happy they are there and you are getting to go see them in a Final. Leaning more toward the ceremony of it all than the outcome of the game itself. B) The biggest game of the year. Blood, guts, glory come to mind. All the passion that has flowed out of your body for 7 long months comes to a head. Thinking about trips to Tulsa, Columbus and now LA. The USOC run, culminated by a victory. Now only one thing remains and you could give a sh!t about anything else the weekend holds. Fvck DC, fvck Freddy Adu, fvck Barra Brava, Go Wizards! C) A and B combined. Yeah, I figure most everyone will say somewhere in between. So I gave that as an option, but please explain yourself. So, what is MLS Cup to you?
it's our league's super bowl, as far as i'm concerned. don't get me wrong, i love how they do it overseas with no playoffs and such, but i've been raised with playoffs and it's ingrained in me now. this game is what you're shooting for in preseason... not to be there, but to win it!
B ... this will be the first Final I have watched. In 2000 I was at a friends house and was forced to watch the Chiefs game. Basically ... I am still new enough to soccer that the MLS Cup Final still doesn't mean as much to me unless my team is there.
B All the stuff in A is nice, cause it's always great to meet other fans that are really into soccer. But in this case, I have to go with B, when it comes right down to it, for me nothing about A could ever be important enough to pull me away from wanting to kick the crap out of whoever we play in the final, DC this year, Chicago in 2000, and any other possible matchups in the years to come.
B This is the holy grail of the MLS. My team is in it. I'll make nice with the other supporters from other teams that show up, but I want my team to win. No if, ands or buts. I'm going to be loud, proud, boisterous and cheer my team to victory. Go Wizards
Yeah, like Chris said. We're not hooligans so I look forward to meeting DC supporters and supporters of the other MLS teams. But........................ We're here to support our team in their attempt to win the Cup, and celebrate with them when they do. This weekend is the culmination of a season that no one could have predicted back in March. C'mon you Wizards!
It's a celebration of the league. That's why I go every year. This will be my seventh MLS Cup (and I went to all 3 of the WUSA's Founders Cups). In a weird way, the Wizards being in the Cup is a bit of a distraction from the general mirth and party atmosphere. A Wizards' Cup is a completely different beast than a non-Wizards Cup, but I enjoy them both.
I swear I'm not trolling, just trying to offer some (unsolicited) advice. I strongly suggest you be ready to back up your smack with action lest you be justifiably ridiculed. I also suggest you keep your face unknown 'cause the varsity will be in LA. Having said that, I know you guys will have some creative songs and will try to bring it hard. La Barra Brava absolutely respects any supporters group that can compete with us. Keep the object of your expletive taunts on the team vs individuals (like the Barra) and you'll be less likely to provoke a heated confrontation. Now back to your regularly scheduled smack talk! GM
Blah blah blah. I like you personally, Tom. But your arrogant self-importance is undeserved. I'm sorry, but Barra Brava is not god's gift to supporter groups - and you often confuse pub songs with stadium chants. Getting a handful of folks around you laughing about Luis Hernandez's hairdo is one thing, but it doesn't exactly get the stadium rocking. After 9 years, I've accepted the fact that everyone else in MLS seems to think that both the Wizards and the Mystics/Cauldron are a joke and there's little I can do to change that perception - So I'm not going to bother here. Wizards fans don't have to justify anything to anybody except for the Wizard players. That's all that truly matters. So quit worrying about the Mystics and start worrying about your team.
Anyone notice on MLSnet.com pictures from the eastern and western conference finals matches. Out of ten sets of pictures, I think there's one from the western conference match. I smell a conspiracy.
GM, where do you get off posting this in the Wizards forum? Define what you mean by "back up smack" & "keep you face unknown cause the varsity will be in LA". Are you seriously suggesting/threatening someone in the Wizards forum for putting a curse word in front of your supporter group? The fact that you bothered to post this on behalf of the Barra is a classless act and the fellow Barra bretheren should be the ones who are p!ssed at you. You're trying to act like you're giving someone a heads up that you could be in for an ass kickin by a group that absolutely respects any supporters group doesn't sound like respectful supporters group at all. Then you try to dictate a Wizards forum that we need to keep expletive taunts focused only on teams or individuals I guess your a moderator here. Mr Pot I suppose this sort of thing doesn't occur in every DC shortbus thread that has ever been created? You're holding on a little too tight about the situation, take a step back, it's just a freakin soccer game. This board is for Wizards banter and your taking a random posting way too personal. Your attempt to try and portray the Barra as a respectiful group has actually back lashed into making me wonder what type of culture is going on in DC that spawn's such reasoning. For now I'll ignore the fact that you're trying to represent all of the Barra as a whole and just focus on the fact that you obviously think you represent more than you really do. Lighten up Francis... Neg Rep Given.
Let's see. In a Fan vs. Fan interview with www.goal.com I did with Lanky, I wrote this: "As I mentioned before, I admire their fans. Specifically I admire what they’ve been able to do in their supporter’s sections. Seeing the stands at RFK bounce with passionate soccer fans is amazing. I’ve traveled to Chicago and seen similar scenes. That is what we’re trying to create in Kansas City with the Cauldron. We’re now getting upwards of 200 fans standing, chanting, singing and clapping for the Wizards. We’ve had places like DC and Chicago to look to as we’ve built our section." Team vs. individual? Does that mean "Leg Breaker" and "Child Labor" chants aren't allowed? Man, you're going to have to get me a rule book before Sunday so we don't screw up. The statement "Fvck DC, fvck Freddy Adu, fvck Barra Brava, Go Wizards" means that the person doesn't care a damn thing about the other team or their fans. They just want KC to go and win the Cup and don't care about anything else. Further, you took this completely out of context, considering I did not state which choice A or B, I supported. So now, I'll tell you. I am a B kinda guy. You and your fellow fans wanna take jabs at us all over BigSoccer and then the one time someone says one bad thing about your fans you come flying in like this? So fvck you. Not Barra Brave, becuase I don't think (at least I hope) you represent them as a whole. And just for your viewing pleasure, I'm the one in the red hat. So there, I dared to show my face.
Note: After GM and I Pm'd over this further I think he said it best back to me that we should just chalk this up as over-excitement on both our parts toward the game this weekend. No apologies/excuses, just recognizing the fact that both sides are hyped and ready to go. Everyone is wanting molehills to grow at this point. I'm sure this is the first of several troll(ish) issues that will pop up before and after this big game for both sides. By the way I'm somewhere in the C area "between the pencil erasers and the cup-o-pizza" (or whatever SM said).
B I've only watched parts of the last 2 Cup finals. Been following the Wizards for 3 years now(missed the 2000 cup). Been on Big Soccer for a little over a year. Been in the Cauldron most of the time the last 2 years. To me the Cup is not quite up there with the Super Bowl yet, but it's getting closer every year. Especially after the Chiefs break hearts almost every year. MLS is making inroads, slowly, but shurely. If talked up the Wizards all summer long, and I'm noticing a lot more people aware of how well the Wizards have been doing. The press coverage in the Star helps. For all those who are lucky enough to make the trip, (I wish I could be there) I'll try and channel my Charma to add to the atmosphere. Give them He double hockey sticks. GO WIZARDS!!!! ONE MORE WIN!!!!!!!
Well.....put me down as a b type of person..... for those who do not know me I'm English and if anyone has ever been to a Liverpool vs. Everton game or Arsenal vs. Tottenham then they will understand rivalries. The F.A. Cup is the competition every supporter longs to go to, I for one have never been (mostly due to the fact that Charlton Athletic aren't good enough....one day, one day ) and it doesn't stop me dreaming. So here I am just under 4 days away from witnessing the pinnacle of U.S. domestic footie, this is something I'm not taking lightly. I will be there giving 110% to support the team, whatever it takes to bring the trophy back to K.C. I think I speak for the majority of the mystics when I say that all things considered the team look as us as the motivation that makes them go that last 1% when they are worn out, tired and just want it to end....we owe them our every effort, at the end of the day those guys are the ones leaving it all out there. I know that if I have a voice on monday it'll be a minor miracle...... see ya there.......oh!....as for the DC fan.......I can yell louder than you can see you there guys Kev
Big Pat chooses "C" Reasons: 1. The passion and "kill the other team" mentality pervades my being 2. we need more of Kansas City to be curious about this game....love 'em, bring 'em to the watch party....under the auspices of BURGER MADNESS.... 3. The culmination of the guts and hard work, and the culmination of winning more soccer fans to the MLS brand of the sport all end for a while after this weekend~~~I'm very torn. Big Pat
Kevin, I don't know if you knew.....you were on TV on the national coverage of the game last week. I taped it. Have a good time in LA. I'm jealous. Big Pat
