While I was at the Phillies Dollar Hot Dog Night last, I started to wonder: Why don't teams do this every weeknight? Does the lost revenue per hot dog really outweigh the increased ticket sales, parking and sale of other food and drinks?

The Phillies had two Tuesday night games previously this season (Mets and Nationals) and they drew about 26,000 people on average. Last night's attendance was 41,258 and the walk up crowd was 11,000 people (mostly college kids).

Is there some huge downside to this that I'm missing?

Because it would then cease to be a novelty and the walkups wouldn't be so big. It's big now because people look for the Dollar Dog Nights on the schedule. They used to have more of them though at the Vet. Then again, you also used to get free tickets if you bought a pack of Phillies Phranks.
