Just a couple of guesses here really but....

Perhaps 'cause Agoos was the biggest donkey on the US team at the 2002 World Cup, and he can't hack it at the international level anymore. (Whether he used to hack it at the international level when he was younger is still up for debate)

As for Meola, I think he should be listed in the pool, but he is still 4th choice at best.

I think he would be higher than 4th, probably 3rd behind Howard and Friedel

Additional puzzling question: anyone know why a question about Agoos and Meola is in the Yanks Abroad board?

you have got to be kidding... he's more like 8th or 9th in line behind keller, hartman, brown, hahnemann, cannon, etc.

and agoos officially retired from the team in 2003 IIRC

Meola is leading the MLS with 7 SHO and a GAA of .82 he should be rated at least third

Meola is old and his time in the Nat. team is over. Let the young ones have their chance.

And Agoos has always sucked. It was always embarrassing to see him in a Nat. team jersey.

Meola is 5th on Bruce's depth chart right now, behind Friedel, Keller, Howard, and Walker. Whether he should be rated lower or higher is open for debate (altho he certainly is not top 3), but that's where he is in Bruce's mind.

That being said, you heard it here first kids: I would not be at all shocked if Meola winds up being our 3rd keeper in Germany in 2006, particularly if Howard is the starter.

yup meola is 5th behind the big 3 and walker. He's still a very good keeper, but we have better. He's at best a backup for the nats nowadays against smaller opponents. Agoos did retire from international play thankfully.
