Ned Devine's Irish Pub is opening this month in Downtown fairfax. I have heard the location in Reston shows soccer quite a bit, so maybe we will get lucky and the fairfax location will too. Anyone ever been to a Ned Devines?
Yeah. Good pub in Herndon, which is a viewing location for DCU away games (until recently**). **Just be careful of marauding police zealots trying to stamp out public drunkeness. They are as dressers of maters: mother frockers! GM
In the past the Management at Kilroy's in Springfield has been very accomodating to us. They have over 40 tv's in the joint and a good selection of brew. They are easy to get to(right on Braddock Rd. and the Beltway)good food and good atmosphere. The only thing that takes precedence is pro and college football. Now if we could only get DCU to televise the games....
The new Ned Devines will be less than a mile from my house. A soccer bar in walking distance would be sweet.
You should go in with a United banner when it opens and talk up the manager or bartender. Get to know them and gradually turn it into a DCU bar. It's only a few miles away for me too.
Any decent places in Loudoun County, more specific, Sterling VA that cater to the soccer fan? I *knew* I should have brought this up with our real estate agent before we bought this house.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A24635-2003Jan7.html Reading that article gave me the chills. The only thing missing was a quote from a police spokesperson connecting the bar patrons with the "War on Terror." I'm glad I live in DC - I might not be able to vote, but at least I can drink my fill without fear of the Blueshirts kicking down the tavern door and dragging me away in a paddy wagon.
Re: Re: A new "soccer bar" in fairfax? But in the District if you walk through an intersection in the cross-walk, you may get ticketed for doing 65mph by one of those very accurate speed cameras.
Watched few World Cup Games at Ned Divines. It's nice bar with a fair number of screens, though I don't think they're on the level of Summer's as far as showing soccer. However, in light of the police raids in Fairfax County, it might be worth the trip out to Arlington or DC if you are going to have more than one or two drinks durring the course of the game.
Re: Re: Re: A new "soccer bar" in fairfax? Heh, that's why I stopped wearing a license plate on my a$$. Lord knows DC has it's share of problems - but raiding bars? What is this, the 1920s? Are we going to have to start drinking in speakeasies? Thank goodness Summers is in Arlington and not Fairfax!
Re: Re: A new "soccer bar" in fairfax? You have a fill mark? I think mine might have gotten washed off in my last drunken rampage...
That article is disgusting. Someone got arrested for singing "Jingle Bell Rock?" At a Christmas party? In a bar? I really do hate Virginia sometimes.
From the Post: "Katherine K. Hanley (D), chairman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, said the operation was a tool to reduce drunken driving and would be evaluated before it is repeated." If you live in VA and want your voice heard on this silly "bar patrol" go can voice an opinion here: http://www.co.fairfax.va.us/gov/bos/chair/feedback.htm
Sounds like a highly effective technique - especially since the Blueshirts didn't bother asking if any of the people they were accosting even had a car nearby. I'm just a former resident (lived there for 20+ years), or I'd give them a serious piece of my mind. Fascists.
One man who was arrested during one of the police raids acknowledged having several drinks during the course of the afternoon, but said he was not driving or acting unruly as he sat at a table with several work colleagues. He had just finished singing "Jingle Bell Rock" on the karaoke machine when an officer asked him to step outside. He failed a breath test and was taken in a van to jail. Bad singing will not be tolerated in the Virginian Stalag!
You could still write in, but point out that while you don't live there, this program make you far less likely to bring your dollars to Fairfax County.
Thanks for the great link!! I had already written a letter to my district's supervisor, Hyland, so it was easy to cut and paste. Our liberty has been too hard won for this abuse of power to be allowed to infringe upon it. GM
Hell, they should've nabbed them in the can, that way they could get 'em for public urination as well.... Way to take a bite out of crime, Virginia.
Unbelievable. Great use of property taxes. I fthey had followed drunk people to their cars it would be one thing, but arresting people inside the bar is a whole different issue. How ticked off do you think the owner must be?
Just think what would have happened if the patron did not wash his hands after "doing his business"... Public health violations around and potential charges of attempted use of a biological weapon...
If that's the case, I should be arrested for singing along to my Bruce Springsteen bootleg on I-66 this evening.
I know the feeling man! I gotta two block stagginr walk home from summers...good thing arlington cops don't worry about staggering drunks...I'd be jail most saturday nights. I hate fairfax co. police...they are not very found of that ol' ice t song, "copkiller."
