I have heard only bits and pieces of the Healers yet I will be first in line to see them next month, just to be in the same room as Johnny Marr, the single greatest musician in the history of the galaxy and universe. who else is going?
He's playing here in SF in February. I'm debating. I've heard some Healers and it's not so good, IMO.
about 6 mos ago there was a guitar of his on ebay for 5K, one he used to write 3 or 4 smiths songs. If I didn't suck at guitar...hmm. Report back on the show, I'm interested to know how it was.
well he can't be broke considering he worked with the pretenders, the the, everything but the girl, Kirsty Maccall, and of course his work with Bernard Sumner with Electronic. Plus he was asked to join Oasis (although Oasis deny's it) and he turned them down.
That doesn't mean anything. It only takes a few bad investments for everything to go up in smoke. You wouldn't think that MC Hammer or Elton John could go broke, either. But they both have filed for bankruptcy in the past. And they had more money than Johnny Marr could ever dream of. I'm only speculating. Perhaps Marr is financially safe and sound. But seeing his guitar in hock on ebay isn't exactly reassuring, is it?
I can't see Johnny Marr being broke or even close to it. The Smiths still sell large amounts of records worldwide.
I have a ticket to see him at Maxwell's on the 17th. Three nights in Hoboken, NJ to start the US tour - how weird is that? Still have heard nothing from the Healers. Haven't been able to find anything on Kazaa.
Obie-- Check here for a couple downloads: http://www.imusic.com/mp3/johnnymarr.html ...I think they sound pretty good. I'm going to the first show of the tour, Wed 1/15 @ Maxwell's. Should be very interesting, to say the least. I'm told that there are less than 10 tix left on Ticketmaster for Friday's show, and not many more for the other two. I'm interested to see what these things end up going for on eBay.
Footix - thanks for the link. I'm going to Friday's show. I assumed that they were sold out, since Maxwell's isn't advertising them anymore. They moved the 2nd NYC show from the Mercury Lounge to the Bowery Ballroom b/c of demand. Other Maxwell's-related: Anyone notice that they added an Interpol show? Those tickets disappeared in less than a day.
I'll be taking the trip to Chicago to see Marr on the 28th. I'm very excited. I expect full detailed reports from those who see him before me.
Just got a press release that says Mellowdrone is opening all these US dates! Nice. http://www.mellowdrone.com
$100 a pair to see Interpol? No thanks... http://search-desc.ebay.com/search/...=&ebaytag1code=0&st=&SortProperty=MetaEndSort
Just to clarify, it was a guitar shop selling the Johnny Marr guitar, not the man himself. (I want to say it was in Leeds or somewhere close, but I can't quite remember) They had a certificate of authenticity and what not. Just didn't want you guys thinking he was pan handling.
I have a friend with a pair of tickets for the Friday (the 17th) Maxwells show that he won't be able to use. If any one would like them at face value (I think they are $15/ea) let me know via PM.
New Johnny Marr song Heard a new Marr song on WXPN this morning. Not sure if its just him solo or who is singing. Called "down the corner" or something like that. (Am I being vague enough yet?) Pretty good song. Very good jangle guitar, but what else would you expect from Marr but some good jangle.
I have two tickets for the Chicago show later this month that I am unable to use now...If anyone wants to purchase them off me PM me.
