no news yet?! This wait is killing me... It looks like its gonna be another month, i believe.... fuuuhh
I doubt we hear anything until Tuesday's vote for Orlando. Best guess is that they want to bring in teams two at a time for scheduling purposes. NYCFC makes 20 and maybe 2 and 2 with 2 teams moving to the West. Also if they say that 2014's schedule might not look that different than 2013's, I get the felling that 2015 might be the year that they're targeting for the switch. Three teams might start then, if the season doesn't start to July or August, giving Orlando 18 months to build a stadium. This would also be the first year of the new TV contracts and maybe a raise in the salary cap. with the new collective bargaining agreement. I'm guessing that somewhere around the MLS Cup we'll find out, with rumors starting to fly around in a week of two.
http://www.wsbtv.com/gallery/news/l...images-planned-downtown-atlant/gCFRN/#4030466 Atlanta is on the move for a team, already have the land purchased, and the stadium design ready. Blank is already in discussions over an MLS Atlanta team In another article, I read they want the Rowdies to join MLS, to have an instant rivalry, and that their crowds are getting bigger. http://prosoccertalk.nbcsports.com/...er-to-mls-expansion-with-new-falcons-stadium/ Miami has to step up, or we getting left behind!!
According to Kartik it will be at the MLS championship game or the super draft in January. Patience, Lucho. He also says it is something that is going to happen.
Watever happen to Alessandro Butini? It's been quiet on that front, any news of him and necks joining forces for the stadium?
Kauffman's article yesterday said Butini is still pursuing it and held a presentation with University of Miami on Monday.
students present soccer stadium ideas to Miami-Dade County officials By Michelle Kaufman The Miami Herald http://www.miamiherald.com/2013/12/09/3808923/um-students-present-soccer-stadium.html
Butini mentioned again during the Unv of Miami architecture students presentations. County seems to be open to Butini, but does he have the money? http://www.miamiherald.com/2013/12/09/3808923/um-students-present-soccer-stadium.html
Man, can you imagine if they were to build this stadium on the waterfront site they proposed? The TV shots of this place at evening and night would be insane! They would be even better if the stadium is full, of course
FYI it's 4 different stadium proposals from 4 different UM students. Personally it looks like they were trying to replace the Nou Camp or Old Trafford, so my opinion on Butini's validity has gone down. This is high fantasy for a stadium in Miami.
Considering 2 of them show a city landscape and the other looks like its on a deserted tropical island, I don't think so.
They all have the coral shell look in the building, with pieces missing so you can see the view of the city. I would imagine one is looking toward the city and the other might be looking toward the ocean. If you look at the deign of the building, you can see the pattern in shadow on the pitch. The bottom left is the concourse, void of vending stations. The stadium is on an Island, it's just not deserted.
That's fine. None of them will ever be built. NYCFC has billions and billions and they are "only" spending $400 million to build, and that includes paying off millions of dollars in debt by a garage authority and buying/relocating a factory with 400 employees in New York City. I don't see Miami MLS out spending them and to build these beautiful stadia, they would have to. Hence my original comment about Butini ("I can do it for $80 million") being out of touch and this being fantasy.
I agree that Butini's claim of building a stadium in Miami for $80 million isn't realistic, but even for the cost to build Red Bull Arena, that design on a Miami stadium could be accomplished. The outer shell of that one proposed stadium design from the UM student is reminiscent to the birdsnest stadium design in China with the exception being the outer shell of this proposed Miami stadium is honeycombed. Depending on the building material cost, in my opinion something like this could be duplicated. Look no further than BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston, for the cost to build that stadium with it's mesh outer shell design on a stadium the cost of Red Bull Arena could easily duplicate something spectacular and unique in MLS.
