Since I can't find the old one. It's about time for one anyway. So, I've heard people complain that Hip Hop is dead. To them I say "you're trippin'." Dilated Peoples, Common, Outkast, Mos Def, Blackalicious, Jurassic 5, The Roots, Talib Kweli, Black Eyed Peas, lots of others. Not to mention the fact that the Beasties have a new one coming out later this month. Hip Hop is far from dead. Also, anyone ever seen this?
I love a good DJ in my hip hop. The rap is great too, but I dig scratching a lot more. On Dilated People's "Neighborhood Watch," the last song, "DJ Babu In Deep Concentration" is incredible. The man is one of the most incredible turntabilists I've ever heard.
Im into the indie rap ********, like Atmosphere and Sage Francis. Demigodz are pretty good. Cunninlynguists and Non Phixion are worth checking out too.
Atmosphere's Seven's Travels is nice - it's my first foray into emo rap and I'm definitely enjoying it. Kanye's album is the best of the year.
I saw that 2 years ago, back when I had cable on the sundance channel, wish I had taped it. At first I started watching it, in the hopes blackalicous would be shown, still it was really cool to see Dj-ing discussed and documented. Opened my eyes - I'll say that.

I don't buy too many DVDs, but this one is on my wishlist - my old roommate had it and the extras were great. It's worth whatever Amazon's charging for it.

Sevens Travels is Atmospheres best album. Which is great because I've said that everytime he's released a new album.
Right now, I'm waiting for Talib Kweli's The Beautiful Mixtape hosted by Rick James and DJ Shadow's Product Placement DVD/CD to ship. I think I will go ahead and pre-order the Beasties CD. Also considering: RJD2 Since We Last Spoke Pete Rock Soul Survivor II Although I love RJD2's Dead Ringer a lot, The Horror didn't impress me that much, but his new one sounds good from what little I heard of it. Pete Rock is always quality, and C.L. Smooth does a couple of tracks on the new one.

I like that site a lot. Because of it, I've bought Articolo 31, Almamagretta (although that's not really rap to me), 99 Posse, and Gemelli DiVersi. Back in March, my wife and I were in Milano. We went into this huge record store right near the Duomo because I wanted to buy some stuff that would be hard to get in the States. We walked into the store and I asked one of the guys who worked there where the Italian music was, and which groups were good for hip hop, rap and punk. He showed me were the music was but was too busy to give me buying tips. I wasn't looking for Eros Ramazotti or Laura Pausini, so I was a little stumped. So I see this kid with long stragly hair, dressed all in black, with a bunch of silver rings on his fingers. I figure, "what the hell, looks like I'll like his taste in music." So I said to him, in Italian "Hello, I'm an American, and I'd like to buy some good Italian music that's hard to find in the States. I like rap, hip hop, punk, ska, and stuff like that. Can you recommend some groups?" He looked at me like I was from another planet at first, but then gave me some good pointers. I bought a couple of CDs by a group named Shandon which I really like. I'm trying to remember what else he recommended. I guess Sarazza raps in Sardo, right? I can understand Italian pretty well, but I'm lost when it comes to dialects.

They rap in a strange mix of sardinian ( various dialects of the sardinian language ) + italian (cagliari's slang) + some spanish. Don't worry, the other italians cannot understand them the same. If you like I'll do a list of the best italian music IMHO... (be sure that Pausini, Ramazzotti , Boccelli and stuff are not there... unfortunately neither sa razza). I will add what type of music they play so you'll see if you are really interested. I listen to almost any type of music. I started when i was a little kid as a prog rock maniac. Meanwhile this is my preferred italian band. CCCP - FEDELI ALLA LINEA CSI PGR (basically the same group changing the name and music style - punk rock) Beware that they defined them as playing "punk filosovietico" in the mid 80's, go figure... The singer (and leader), Giovanni Lindo Ferretti, cannot sing but he's a poet and has a lot of charisma. One of their last songs... I suggest as a start CCCP - FEDELI ALLA LINEA 1964-1985.
