The Madrid press certainly branded him as the new Sergio Ramos and there were posts here saying his technique is "Ramosesque". I do believe the coaching staff wanted a completely different profile of player, and the excitement of finding a bright spot in a worrisome season kind of inflated his true value. It's not really that big of a deal.
Aside from the last two games, I felt that Asensio had fewer "WTF" moments than Ramos in his early days. That said, I’m not suggesting Asensio will necessarily become the better player. It was clear even back then that Ramos possessed exceptional physical tools and athleticism—he just needed time to develop into the player he eventually became. Asensio, on the other hand, showed impressive composure for someone in his first season at a high professional level. Of course, there are important context differences: Ramos was still a teenager during his debut season with Real Madrid, whereas Asensio is already 22. However, Ramos had already played a full season in La Liga with Sevilla before joining Madrid, while Asensio came straight from the second team. So, players' development cycle is different. Edited: If we don't handle Asencio carefully within the next two seasons, he could become our new Pavon. I myself believe that he will become at least a very good reliable backup.
Asencio and RM fans should be delighted if he has a peak close to Helguira's. Helguira was a starter for RM side that won multiple league titles and CLs under VDB. His peak only lasted from 1999-04 much like Salgado. Helguira also played 45+ games for Spain during his peak. Nacho had the longevity while Helguira and Salgado had 5 year peaks as starters at RM. Helguira's decline since 2004 was sharp and he was totally washed by single 2007-08 season at Valencia and retired. Asencio has to develop better temperamant in tight situations to have a career at RM level. Hope he does that.
So basically, Rüdiger didn’t get angry for no reason, he was actually subjected to racist slurs. https://www.cbssports.com/soccer/ne...s-racially-abused-by-pachucas-gustavo-cabral/
"In Argentina we...." Yeah so we already know this idiot did it. I wonder how badly FIFA will make him and example because he's a nobody on a smaller side.
We've had this discussion before, not going to go there again. I definitely agree with your last sentence.
Yeah, it also provides zero value. I think the whole place, or the majority of it is realistic about Asencio as a player. He's going to get minutes and be valuable.
He was our best defender last season, which may speak to the quality of the defense, but also should be a testament to how well he did. Before we bring other narratives into the conversation, let's let him grow from his mistakes. The "first coming of Sergio" made his fair share of dumb mistakes early in his career as well, would have been a shame if we had had just made a call on his career then.
Brazilian clubs are upending the global order at the Club World Cup Flamengo, Botafogo, Palmeiras and Fluminense are not as rich as European clubs but they have heart and heritage https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...ld-cup-flamengo-botafogo-palmeiras-fluminense
Very impressed with Gonzalo Garcia so far. What a way to step up during Mbappe absence. Great profile to have in the squad.
🚨 BREAKING: After assessing the situation, FIFA has concluded that it’s difficult to determine whether a racist insult took place as there is no video evidence. Argentina might be very casual about racism given their history. But I support life time bans to teach the whole country a lesson about Racism if it is possible.
They also have the advantage European clubs had prior to this summer edition; playing the tournament mid-season so they're in some kind of form and rhythm.
I believe brasileirao will only get better I’d rather they keep Taking Colombian talent there than to other European clubs that don’t necessarily would play them
As I already said a few days ago, Inter Miami and Palmeiras will face each other to avoid meeting Paris.
This can be ugly and we may even lose 2nd spot to Porto. I can feel the anxiety our team oozes on the pitch. Messi's presence will make it worse.
