Charleston just went up 1-0 on a Greg Simmonds goal. Thats gotta hurt for Richmond their first goal given up this season comes from a former Kicker.

    Half-time

Charleston is still up 1-0. Charleston seemed to have the majority of opportunties and without some excellent saves by Richmonds keeper, Ronnie Pascale they would be leading by more than one.

Charleston up 2-0. Simmonds on a one time volley, Pascale blocks but Goos there to punch it in.

Simmonds comes off after being fouled hard by Luzak. Luzak was carded just a few minutes before this when he fouled Korol.

    Bagley is the sub.

I was at the Puerto Rico Islanders vs. Toronto Lynx match.
    About 5-6k in attendance
Fireworks display, pregame live music, marching band halftime show deal.
Good active crowd, bad fouling game, lots of off the ball fouls I would not like to have seen. Punches from both teams out of frustration and it got nippy.
I left about the 85th minute to make it out for a party, I was plastered from a drink they were offering called the GOLAZO which had God knows what alcohol in it but they weren't telling.
Lots of very attractive ladies there, lots of Argentinians and plenty of jerseys and flags of different teams from a range of different countries and leagues. I had on my Chicago Fire jersey on to represent MLS and had a few positive comments to my surprise.
I have digital pictures of the game but do not know how to post them. Cheers, MM!

PS: I think the night was a resounding success and I hope the rest of the league games are as well attended as this first night was. Peace

I guess it is too much to ask what the score was when you left?

Here are a couple more Battery/Kicker reports the first is from the BAttery the second is from the local paper the Charleston Post and CourierSimmons sparks BAttery to 2-0 win

    Ex-kicker lifts Battery in Opener

We had a good crowd for the first listening party at the Madra Rua Pub, and thanks Simmonds and Goos for the drink specials. $1.00 of Guiness when the Battery scores!

How come none of these match reports lists an official attendance figure? Is everybody just believing the Toronto Lynx match report estimate? I'd be interested in the official attendance.

Krammer, to give you an idea as I was there, the stadium is a baseball one that can hold 15,000 I believe. Half the stadium was almost completely full so an estimated crowd of 6,000 is about right. The crowd was big enough that they did a wave from end to end and they were loud as hell with drums and cheers. I was completely shocked by the islands response but then again we have a lot, and I mean a lot, of Argentinian, Mexican, Venezuelan, Colombian, etc. immigrants that are starving for live soccer. We have had Fox Sports World on the tube for several years giving us live league soccer of MLS, Argentina, Mexico, England and as a result we have more interested people in the sport.

The one thing that can make this team take off in the next few years is the metro train system that is in its final stages of construction. The station literally stops at this stadium in Bayamon and people won't have to deal with the horrendous traffic that city has. Once that train goes up I believe just about any event that is happening at that stadium will go off.

PS:I had on a Chicago Fire jersey and it got lots of comments from the crowd I walked through during the night.

I have no doubt that there were 6000 people there, it's just that some of us prefer to see the official attendance. Last year on these boards we had a weekly thread where we posted official match attendances of each game. Since this is supposed to be a professional league, I'd think each team should be reporting official attendances.
