Reuters article in today's New York Times: http://www.nytimes.com/reuters/2013/10/10/sports/soccer/10reuters-soccer-australia.html?ref=soccer
Not really an "in the media" post, but more of an "on the media" post.. I'm really annoyed that I won't be able to watch A-League games this season. Fox reworked their stations over the summer and one of the casualties was Fox Soccer Channel where A-League games used to air. They "created" a Fox Sports 1 and Fox Sports 2 channel by rebranding a couple of their other channels (Speed and Fuel, I believe) and they'll be airing A-League on Fox Sports 2. The problem is, Fuel (the channel that became Fox Sports 2) was so unpopular of a channel that the largest cable company in the US (Comcast) didn't carry it and they currently don't have any plans to add Fox Sports 2. So until they do.. No A-league for me.
Funny in the US how they shut down Fuel tv and Speed but in Australia Fox is keeping both channels alive and they remain untouched and they are running as normal, I think most of us here wish they were also both shut down and converted into a 24/7 soccer channels . Do you have access to Fox Soccer Plus because they are also showing 1 live game a week plus showing replays of the match that airs live on Fox Sports 2. ONE World Sports is also airing 2 A-league games per week but I think that channel is more minor again and this week at least matches are being delayed because of Asian Golf. I posted this in another forum Friday, October 11 2013 Sydney FC vs Newcastle Jets @ 4:30am - ONE World Sports* Saturday, October 12 2013 Central Coast Mariners vs Western Sydney Wanderers @2:30am - Fox Soccer Plus Melbourne Victory vs Melbourne Heart @4:30am - No coverage Sunday, October 13 2013 Wellington Phoenix vs Brisbane @ 12:00am - Fox Sports 2 Adelaide United vs Perth GloryOne @2am - ONE World Sports* *both matches on OWS are being delayed to 6am ET
Probably not a option for you but it looks like you need to change providers. If your interested ABC is broadcasting every A-league match on radio and online, you should be able to find a live stream on there website http://www.abc.net.au/radio/player/?station=grandstand
That would involve me having a PC. Heh. My home PC died several years ago and since I was almost all mobile devices anyways, I never replaced it. I'll have to check come tomorrow, but when I checked the streaming options for mobile users they were region locked to Australia.

So who's in for some Arnie action? Perth? Sydney? Jets? Wanderers, Adelaide & Brisbane's coaches are locked in. I can't see Wellington, the Marinators, or the two Melbourne clubs going for him.

Dont blame them one bit at all. We have ten teams only so why should one team be allowed to wear the jersey of another, regardless of who owns them.
Here is a great article on soccer in Australia and it's ethnically based clubs. Football For All http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/soccer/news/20140422/far-post-football-for-all-a-league-australia/

I really should have posted this earlier, but.. you know how it is. I listen to The A-League Show podcast to get my A-League fix since the games have been banished to the barren wasteland that is FS2 here in the States and they have been doing a review podcast for each team the last week. The downside is that the reviews are just interviews with someone associated to the team rather than an independent analysis of the team, but they certainly get you caught up on what's happened to the teams over the offseason: Perth Glory: http://www.aleagueshow.com/posts/perth-glory-preview-with-jason-brewer Sydney FC: http://www.aleagueshow.com/posts/sydney-fc-preview-with-tony-pignata Newcastle Jets: http://www.aleagueshow.com/posts/newcastle-jets-preview-with-clayton-zane Wellington Phoenix: http://www.aleagueshow.com/posts/wellington-preview-with-ernie-merrick Central Coast Mariners: http://www.aleagueshow.com/posts/central-coast-preview-with-wayne-osullivan Adelaide United: http://www.aleagueshow.com/posts/adelaide-united-preview-with-michael-valkanis They are doing a team a day, so I'd imagine both Melbourne teams and the Wanderers will come at some point, but the last post was Adelaide United's on Friday and they didn't post one yesterday. *shrug* Internet, I guess. They are on the usual podcast download sites, but can also be found at their main site: http://www.aleagueshow.com/
