keep in mind that was syracuse's FIRST EVER home game. I personally was expecting a crowd of 12k+ since the ball park over there holds about that much. The rhino attendance was down a bit due to a couple factors: - arena football game
    - popular lilac festival
Can't wait till next weekend! Rhinos vs Salty pups on back to back nights----> should be good crowds at both games for each city

About 87 miles, give or take?

Those back-to-backs in each city should be gold mines for both clubs.

    P&C capacity is 11,000

And Syracuse was hosting the NCAA lacross Final Four and the SU men were hosting rival Princeton @3:00 the same day.

"ya, but noone went to the lacrosse games..."

    WRONG!

8,198 fans were at the biggest lacrosse game this season. The game was Syracuse vs. Princeton to move on to the final four. Syracuse won by the way!

Yes they do. Not a bad crowd considering Vancouver went into the game without their top 5 players who are with the national team and considering the men played a home game the night before.

    Seattle 1-0 Portland

    Attendance: 3945.

So much for crowds to be huge at Seahawk stadiumthis year. Two rival teams, away supporters and scan't even break 4000.

Sounders attendance is up over last year at this time by 20%. Our bigger crowds will come in July (5 home games) and August. It's likely we will average 5,000 by the end of the season, a nice increase over 2003.
This is an A-league team (2nd Division) with a first-division logo and name. Seattle fans know the difference. "Minor Leagues" like the A-league get "minor league" support in metropolitan areas. Even the 'Caps are a mere shadow of their former NASL selves at the gate. Your reasoning behind that?

Oh now I see why you were so pissy in the post you made in the Seattle webcast thread. You are upset over a comment on Seattle attendance.

I never said that the teams we support are anything near their former NASL selves. My comment on the Seattle attendance was based solely on the fact that Seahawk stadium (with the beer and the better pitch etc) was supposed to greatly increase attendance this season. I expected that a game against rivals Portland would draw more than 6000.

As for Vancouver only getting the crowds they do, yeah kind of hard to average large crowds in small antiquated stadium. Put us in a new modern outdoor stadium and we'd average Rochester size numbers. Nothing near the NASL days, but far better than Seattle is averaging this year.

Oh well still hoping that some of the non-pissy Seattle supporters such as Ron S. are up here for the game next Friday.

I've gotta say you A-League guys are scraping the bottom of the barrel for excuses - Lilac festival ??!!!

Don't direspect lax by the way. We're expecting 40,000 for the lacrosse final four to see the Maryland schools put the heathen in their place.

Steady drizzle throughout the game. A good marketing effort by the Mariners in the week before the game. Lots of discount coupons available, and free ticks to kids in local leagues. I'm sure if it weren't for the marketing effort, the attendance would have been in the 5-600 range, considering the weather. Poor Mariners, have had no luck with the weather. Two games over Memorial Day weekend.

    Krammerhead...calm down, dude.

No one I know in Seattle thought attendance would "increase dramatcially" just because of the stadium. We have hopes, but...

And don't interpret opposing views as "pissy." I enjoy your input, but your reputation for "pissy-ness" far exceeds mine. And your title is safe!

You do tend to let opinions "sneak" into your fact posts. Your innocent queries are often laced with hidden jabs. So I thought I'd give it a try. My bad.

I plan to take my wife to the VA Beach-Montreal game this upcoming weekend. I really hope the weather is nice and they get a lot of support.

Considering that Seattle will easily have a higher average attendance than last year without a 25,000 crowd to pad the number is a good thing.

will we rival the NASL glory days? No.

Didn't seem anywhere near 3945 to me and it certainly didn't sound like more than 20. Talk about a quiet crowd. Didn't help that the Timbers Army brought about 20 people and were treated to another horrible display of soccer.

    Agreed.

In addition, a strong A-League team in Syracuse will help Rochester's MLS bid.
