I read it not that millions of people are getting herded into camps, but that millions of people are part of the class that IS getting herded into camps so are worried.

 

What do people here think about that text exchange? Because I find it’s WAY to convenient in the way it lays out everything in the exact narrative that MAGA is reaching for (trans lover, Charlie Kirk spread hate, painstaking detail about logistics). And the language used is REALLY weird, and sounds absolutely nothing like typical texting style from a kid his age. If anything it sounds like AI with prompts given by a cop (who else uses the term “squad car”?)

And the biggest tell for me is when he explains his dad is MAGA. Why the hell would he have to say that to his roommate and supposed lover who would’ve known that a long time ago? The whole thing doesn’t pass the smell test.

I think a gamer might well use those terms-- but then I have never played his games. I just know the terms from all sorts of places-- Vets, antiwar demonstrations, emergency services, mystery stories, police procedurals and so on.

I think if he was trying to respect the roommate's self-perception as female he wouldn't use "bro" in this context.

I think if you screw up in video games you just start over, and they train a lot of people to think that works IRL too. So he might have thought he left no evidence, despite that you are bound to no matter how careful you are. It is more about if they figure out where to look than if...learned that in arson detection school...

Seems like the sort of thing that might well exist-- and if it didn't could be created to order. But the weak spot there is the roommate-- the roommate would know if it wasn't real.

If the roommate falls off a roof, then I'll get suspicious...
