if by “got to work” you mean they figured out how to stick together and all vote for their guy who they fully understand is a deeply flawed individual, yes, they’re more united when it matters than the left.
Oh dear. The old guy that claimed to be the shooter, who police took into custody immediately, is…. well…. F********ing unhinged. He’s been arrested for his dem&leftist political activism a number of times over the 30 years. Most famously, he asked if SLC marathon organizers needed help placing bombs, this after the Boston Marathon bombing. He was there protesting Kirk and claimed to be the shooter to distract law enforcement, to allow the shooter to get away. At least that is what he says. He was shouting for the police to shoot him. They went to search his phone, which he fought against, only to finally concede that he looked at CSAM on his phone. They found stuff with kids the age of 5. F********. https://www.ksl.com/article/5137332...aw-attention-from-the-real-shooter-police-say
Well, like you say, he's unhinged. Look, everybody knows the Right dabbles in kiddie shit all the time. They do it without being (any more) deranged (than is to be expected from a typical conservative). You're worried because this one lib really IS what they would have called him anyway.
My favorite history quote is: History doesn't repeat itself, but it does like to rhyme. The inciting incident for Kristallnacht was the assassination of a low level Nazi diplomat after the Nazis had deported thousands of Polish Jews from Germany to Poland. I hadn't realized that the assassination happened ONE DAY before the Beer Hall Putsch anniversary which makes the 9/11 comparisons just absolutely INSANE to my brain. I don't think we're going to see two days of violence directed at Leftists, but the main idea of unifying the fascist block against a named enemy group is the idea here.
I stole this. I think it does a good job of explaining why I and the MSM have different reactions to Kirk’s murder. The state has a monopoly on violence. Right? Kirk advocated for the state to use that monopoly in pretty horrific ways. Politics is less the alternative to violence as a contest to see which ideology gets to have a monopoly on “legitimate” violence. Speaking of the state having a monopoly on legitimate violence, Team Trump is planning vengeance against its political opponents even tho there’s no evidence the killer was part of that opposition.
I know we had people here masturbating themselves silly over this man taking a bullet in the neck but frankly, that seems twisted and sick. I'd never listened to him before but its interesting to hear him debate these college kids, seems like your garden variety MAGA with a big platform, but not any more obnoxious than most... here too, with Bill Maher, not all together unreasonable, although I disagree with him almost right down the line... ...I don't see how people on the left can rail against political violence (including J6, etc., etc) but in any way be okay with this. And @roby, you were right. I don't really listen to Bill Maher but went and listened to some of his views on YouTube and I think he's got it right about where the left is these days. We can complain all day about Trump and the right, but can Democrats get their own shit together? That's the question we should be asking.
Please don't lump in the few with the many. And please don't mix enjoyment with lack of sorrow. JFC do you lack nuance...and general reading. Just about everybody I have come across who is or appears to be on "the left" has spoken out against political violence AND do not have have much sorrow surrounding Kirk's death. Because you will generalize, this need to be clarified - "Just about everybody" is not the entire "left." There are people celebrating his death, but those people are very, very few.
Other than Auria and Casc trolling, who here has been happy about the killing? How many here repped their posts? Receipts please. Show me who. Exactly. Until you do so, you are simply conflating this community, like germy and other trolls did, with a handful of fringe weirdos and bots that are not representative of this community.
While talking about Kirk... https://theconversation.com/charlie...values-265190?utm_source=firefox-newtab-en-us This is more about the history of what Kirk was doing, trying to bring conservative values to education. Reading this, the education part is about universities. Sure, that's all well and good, and I don't have an issue with this as it makes people more well rounded and hopefully, introspective. That said, the article also mixes "traditional" conservaitve beliefs with the hate that Kirk was spewing. An example. Kirk founded his political nonprofit, Turning Point USA, in 2012. Kirk didn’t originally support Trump, but he became friends with Donald Trump Jr., and eventually became close with the president. Like Trump, Kirk saw academia as the source of a plethora of problems in American society. His goal was to make college campuses more friendly to conservative students by making conservative ideas like free market economics and traditional gender roles more popular. "Gender roles" means White Heterosexual Christians. He promoted hate and the othering of minorities.
JFC do you lack basic conversation skills? Use of the term "people" means just that, some, but not all. It was disgusting and should be universally called out. Should be the easiest thing in the world, but we didn't hear much pushback.
