There are three groups of people who understand this stuff, and the three groups are looking at separate things, but have significant overlap.
1 - People who look at MAGA and their grouping and behavior.
2 - People who look at White Supremacy.
3 - People who look at fascism.

The latter two group tend to be more academics as the first is more recent and more politically-specific. Over the past 5+ years I've read and heard a bunch of stuff on White Supremacy (and I'm using Supremacy rather than Nationalism) so it tends to shape how I look at an act like this, or somebody like Fuentes or Kirk (or Miller). Intellectually, it is fascinating, but it is also frightening.

It's quite easy to forget or lose sight of just how massive the MAGA tent is. It's remarkable it's held together as well as it has to date when you really delve deep into the sun factions on the entire group.

It's why its such a compelling study in what happens post Trump. He's the only one currently who can control it, but even he is now experiencing cracks with the Epstein stuff.

agreed. this is not a difficult shot for anyone with a bit of experience. My main question is whether the gun was sighted. would easily explain the neck shot if it was sighted at 100m for example.

A 30-06 is gonna drop about 2-3 inches at 200 yards. Not enough to explain a neck shot from a head shot aim at that distance.

I strongly suspect he just wasn’t that good of a shot and either flinched anticipating the bang or pulled rather than pressed the trigger*. That’s the only explanation I can come up with for missing by that much….unless his scope was just completely off.

*for those that don’t shoot….think of pointing a laser pointer at a target 200 yards away. Think about how steady you have to be to keep it from, going all over the place and jumping around on the wall 200 yards away. That’s what is happening with a rifle. Little tiny changes at the rifle end mean big changes at the target end. Placing the rifle on a firm rest takes most of that play out. But if you have any movement at all between the moment you decide to make it go bang and when the trigger actually fires the bullet…where you thought you were aiming and where the bullet actually gets sent can vary widely based on minute movements you make. One of the biggest reasons new shooters miss is pulling too fast and hard on the trigger. The act of pulling the trigger can move the barrel enough to send the bullet a good foot or two away from the spot in the cross hairs were centered on when you started to pull the trigger. You’re taught to but steady constant slow pressure in the trigger and let the actual bang just come as a surprise as you keep your target centered in the scope (over simplified) If you just quickly squeeze it….your gonna start missing real quick the further out you’re aiming.

once a bullet leaves the gun…the only two factors that are gonna affect its flight path are wind and gravity (I’m simplifying here a bit). Wind left right…and gravity up down. At 200 yards gravity is only gonna account for a couple of inches..and wind likely wouldn’t affect it at all. So if you assume he was aiming either center of the head or center of the chest….he missed…by a lot. That amount of miss is either flinching/pulling with the trigger pull…or a scope that isn’t zeroed (the scope is pointing to one spot when the rifle barrel is actually pointing somewhere else)

@superdave i saw your question and not sure it was answered. The answer is no…engraving the casings (the brass part of what you would likely call a “bullet”) would have zero effect on where the actual bullet (the lead part of what you would call a “bullet”) goes.

my dad regularly shot at deer at extended ranges of many 100s of metre across valley or gorge in the high country. It’s difficult to get closer than that. I agree it’s more usual to shoot at things much closer. Round here i could hit the deer with a tennis ball they are so unafraid.

i have hit rabbits at quite long distances on foot with a 22 mag. usually shooting down on to a lower terrace.

the idea this guy was some elite sniper was always dumb.

also he was likely nervous. being jacked up could defo mess it up. i’d guess that’s how the trump shooter managed to miss multiple times.

The problem with proof in this case is that the Groypers are a very loosely affiliated online community, so even if this guy was a 'member', it would be hard to say for sure.

It would be like trying to prove the guy was an "incel".

But if he's in gamer chats with his mates and its all more of a vibe then it's tougher

IMO the latter is more likely. Unless he left a manifesto, we probably won't know. I also definitely do no trust this FBI / DOJ to tell us.
